Darfur article

Hi!

I just wanted to talk to you about this article because you appear to be editing it into an encyclopedic article.

Wikinews is not an encyclopedia. Articles produced on Wikinews are strictly about a single current news event or phenomenon. When new information becomes available about a news event a new article is written, rather than updating a previously published article.

All factual statements in a news article must be sourced. Wikinews does not interpret news, but reports only the facts which may be sourced.

Africa Portal

Dates on DPL is based on when the category got added (which one depends on how you have your DPL set up). They are only sorted using the actual date category on the Australia portal and the main page. Every where else its when whoever added one of the categories. see also WN:DPL Bawolff ☺☻ 16:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Software required to open *.ogg files

I´m using audacity, which is freeware, and can be downloaded under the following link: [[1]]

It is quite easy to use, and it offers loads of possiblities to edit audio files. Since I´m using it only for a short while, I´m not very good at it so far. But I can still recommend it very much indeed. Gumboyaya 13:57, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

WinAmp is also good. So far I enjoy it for both music, Wikinews, and movies :) Just go to www.download.com and tpye winamp in the box. Jason Safoutin 14:00, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I just remembered, that I couldn´t listen to .ogg-files at all (including WinAmp) a couple of weeks ago (during my first days at wiki-news). But when I installed audacity, I had to install a .dll-file as well, which made it possible for me to listen to .ogg-files on audacity (and WinAmp, as well). Mabye that´s just all you´ve got to do. Sadly though, I don´t remember anymore what .dll that was. Hope I could help anyway. Gumboyaya 14:34, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello again

Thanks for your comment on my talk page, seeing you've managed to sneak a story about Thailand past me, next time provide a link :-) Adopting something like the Africa Portal would be a good idea, don't make an over-ambitious commitment, set yourself to make sure that all published articles that should have the category added do so, and try to do other things like do a couple of articles that will appear on the portal per week.

While I'm trying to follow events in Thailand I've got a lot of other things to do right now (I'm studying & working), so if you want to report on something go ahead. If you give me a shout I'll take a look and help out with related news and categories. However, it looks like you did a pretty good job, only thing to do differently next time is check the Wikinews:Reference desk for English language country-specific sources. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 21:42, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
