Dumpty-Humpty
Welcome
editDumpty-Humpty, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Anonymous101 :)

19:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)- You were the first to inform me of this archiving policy! I failed to check when the article was published (it's not easy to check), though you had already said "they have been published for more than a day."
- It's desirable if editors easily read a pre-archiving notice and check how many hours have passed since the time of the first publish.
- News information on a disaster tends to be not accurate in first hours; even reliable sources can include mistakes or groundless facts. As to disaster reports, maybe we should establish exceptional archiving conventions. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 22:07, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for contributing this article. However, just because I moved the external links, that does not mean that I endorse it for publication. As you can see in this diff, many more edits were needed. Please do not publish prematurely. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:03, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Renaming
editthe article is now called "Redirect destination was renamed." --SVTCobra 01:22, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I check this matter. Sorry if it's my mistake. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 01:24, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- While you work on that, keep in mind that systems include people, it is not just the computers and machines. --SVTCobra 01:28, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure what you were trying to do, so I had to revert everything. There were red links and broken ones. Sorry...DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for correcting the error. Sorry. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 04:07, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

"A false quake warning in Japan exposes problems for practical use" is not a good title, what was wrong with my title which was "False earthquake warning in Japan exposes flaws in warning systems"? You have created a huge mess of double redirects. People are parts in systems! --SVTCobra 01:59, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I know, I know. I understand your view, and maybe my title isn't the best, but I don't think it's nice to return to your title, which seems to be ambiguous. I mentioned it in detail on the talk page of that article. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 04:07, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your edits and updates to this article. Just a quick note, discussion about how to write the article or how it should be written are usually placed on the Help:Talk page, reached by clicking Collaboration at the top of the page, and creating a new section. Helps keep it in one place and to keep the page size lower for people just viewing the page.
I've moved your comments there, so no need to worry this time :) TheFearow (userpage) 04:14, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Altering quotes
editThis was a direct quote. Please do not alter direct quotes in articles. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:03, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Dumpty-Humpty, per Wikinews policy, you can't update a story already published. You will have to make the revisions with your added sources in a new article. I will be reverting your edits to the last stable page. If you wish to make minor edits to improve grammar, etc., you may do so. Thanks, —Calebrw (talk) 14:24, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, maybe I can create an article like "Narita Airport runway resumes 26 hours after cargo jet crash" but.... Dear Calebrw, it would be better if my correction of a factual error hadn't been reverted, though it was not a significant one (in Tokyo -->> near Tokyo). This is not the first time for me to think of exception to no-more edit rule as to braking news on calamity, fatal disaster, etc.: the sooner an article is published, the lower its quality may be. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 20:00, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Dumpty-Humpty. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Dumpty-Humpty~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
