My RfA

edit

Thanks for your vote on my RfA. I appreciate all votes, however I would like some advice from you on how I can achieve your trust, so that if my RfA should fail, I have a good solid backing to work up from and rerun in the future. If you could leave some suggestions or comments on my talk page, that would be much appreciated. I am not asking you to remove or change your vote at all, rather some tips and any personal experience that you have on how to best achieve what you expect in an admin. Thanks again! --Skenmy(tcwi) 15:10, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your vote does not discourage me, but rather gives me a good idea of where it is I stand and how members of the community feel I should improve myself and my contributions to Wikinews. Once again, thanks for your vote and for your comments and suggestions - they are truly appreciated. --Skenmy(tcwi) 20:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You got one too.

Sorry, you're gonna just have to wait it out. Especially after some discoveries we made on Wikiquote connecting you to a particular user. InvisibleSun 00:15, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Buddy, you asked for an Unblock using the same IP (65.78.87.120) that Wazzawazzawaz and MyName use. What else do you want? InvisibleSun 00:22, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please bear in mind that this is precisely the kind of confusion that this vandal is trying to foster. Arguing about temporary blocks is essentially feeding this troll. It would be best if we stick to our individual projects until the immediate problem is over. ~ Jeffq 00:25, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If this continues, I will be asking you both to go to the Wikinews AND Wikiquote Aribition Comittie. I think that you to need to have a nice cup of tea. Thunderhead(talk) 00:28, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no proof of this act against me nor is there any evidence. I demand that this be looked into right now. It is ridicilous that I am getting treated like this. Jason Safoutin 00:29, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proof

edit

You want proof? Here is proof:

1.) You admit to making this edit.

3.) IPA 65.78.87.120 is used by known vandals Wazzawazzawaz and MyName

4.) You are 'somehow connected to Wazzawazzawaz and MyName

Anything else? I didin't think so. -InvisibleSun 00:30, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

First off, we don't have a Checkuser process at Wikiquote. Second, you imply to have made that edit here. If you continue this nonsense you will be permentally barred from editing Wikiquote. Now calm down and deal with the process. --InvisibleSun 00:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know what, just stick to Wikinews, Jason. We don't need a jerk like you at Wikiquote anyhow. InvisibleSun 00:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not a vandal or impersonator

edit

I have been accused, without merit, proof or evidence of being MyName. I requested a check user on myself for ALL wiki projects. I am requesting I be unblocked on Wikiquote for actions that are not backed up by ANY proof. I would like any administrator to please perform the checkuser. Jason Safoutin 00:57, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yet I see you do not want to help in this matter...nor Invisible sun. So whatever. Thanks for nothing. I have half a mind to think you are an imposter as well. Thanks for blocking people with no evidence or proof. I would say thats abuse of Admin powers. Jason Safoutin 00:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Jason, I am surprised and disappointed that you are spending so much time and energy worrying about a temporary block on Wikiquote during a massive, cross-project vandalism attack by a person known for creating impersonations of sysops. I am trying to compose a comprehensive request for the Counter-Vandalism Unit to get assistance on this, while helping InvisibleSun to stop a vandal who clearly has a sophisticated, automated system for simultaneously causing multiple projects problems. I don't have time to deal with hurt egos. Block my Wikinews account if it would make you feel better. My only goals at the moment are to (A) stop the current attack, and (B) request assistance in preventing further similar attacks from eating up what little sysop bandwith we have. ~ Jeffq 01:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
By the way, none of the above discussion sounds like the InvisibleSun I know from Wikiquote. I think you are falling prey to exactly the problem we are trying to prevent at Wikiquote. Note that InvisibleSun (talk · contribs) was created during the attack. ~ Jeffq 01:13, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Neutralizer and I

edit

I have never asked for Neutralizer to be unbanned, nor indicated that I would unblock him myself. Having said that, I do not understand these "you and Neutralizer are forming a top secret alliance" accusations. Yes, the two of us do share some opinions, and we do get along on a personal level. But I am on good terms with many users, including you, that does not necessarily mean that we are "working" for each other. Beyond that, I do not wish to comment on whether or not I would like to have Neutralizer unbanned. Additionally, please remember that MyName has, in the past, impersonated other users in order to harass them, so do not assume that everyone who claims to be Neutralizer is the Neutralizer we all know and love ;-). Wikiquote accounts unblocked

edit

My preliminary review of the October 29-30 Wikiquote vandal attacks has given me some perspective on what happened. I'll try to explain what I saw happening and why I took the actions I did.

Two new Wikiquote usernames I'd never seen before on other projects, Nyarlathotep and DragonFire1024, both created during a spate to "Wazz" vandal username creation, began discussing "massive wiki trolling". While blocking active vandal accounts, I also temporarily blocked these two, because the Wazz attacks usually include similar discussions about the vandalism other Wazz usernames are performing, in order to confuse the sysops.

On Wikinews, new User:Emergency Account then notified you about the block. You then (at 00:02) complained and asked for an unblock on your Wikinews talk page. User:Thunderhead (another username newly created at 00:06 on Wikiquote) irrelevantly chimed in (also at 00:06) with an I-want-an-imposter comment. You then (at 00:07) replied "I don't have one...it was my account blocked...see if I help them again."

While this was going on here, at 00:05 on Wikiquote q:User:65.78.87.120 posted the following text to q:WQ:AN (with edit summary "Uublock me; don't let the vandals get the best of us"):

This could have been a legitimate alternative-IP posting by a savvy wiki sysop, but Wazz has also been known to do this sort of thing. With consecutive posts from "NOT a vandal" (WN) to "demanding" an unblock (WQ) to "see if I help them again" (WN), I suspected I had unnecessarily blocked you, but was still suspicious of the Wazz-like hostile tone. My subsequent partial analysis revealed that 65.78.87.120 is a known Wazz vandal address on Wikiquote, so my instincts were right to ignore that particular WQ post. At the time, however, the more you complained about false accusations and demanded stuff like CheckUser (which none of the WQ sysops involved in this incident have access to), the less I was inclined to respond, as I could see no clear reason why it was so important that you have immediate Wikiquote access in the middle of an attack by an multi-user impersonator. (I certainly could see the benefit to Wazz if I obeyed and these accounts were his.)

The fake User:InvisibleSun seems to have capitalized on your anger by provoking you with more accusations. By this time, I hadn't yet confirmed for myself that InvisibleSun was being impersonated, but it seemed clear to me that we sysops should stick to our own projects, because we knew the usernames on our own projects were legitimate from long experience with them. I saw no benefit in trying to immediately resolve who was who on other projects.

Since I now believe that the initial use of q:User:Nyarlathotep and q:User:DragonFire1024 was by the Wikinews editors of the same names, I have released the blocks on them. I did this as simultaneously with this post as I could make it, in order to provide strong evidence that the person using this username is the Wikiquote sysop who unblocked those accounts. I will remind you that I (this username) made the point that Wazz has been known to create "sleeper" accounts months in advance of an attack, so it is not impossible for him to have done this to this User:Jeffq account. I'm just saying that my simultaneous actions should demonstrate I am the same person on both WQ and WN, as Wazz couldn't possibly have written the paragraph you're reading right now, after he saw me unblock the WQ accounts, in time to make this simultaneous post.

I still have more analysis to do, but I will be happy to share the results with you when I'm done. I hope you will consider the challenges presented in this incident and forgive my preemptive actions. Thank you for your consideration. ~ Jeffq 19:03, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I see now that my preliminary analysis was somewhat inaccurate. q:User:Nyarlathotep has proven himself a vandal by engaging in yet another round of "Wazz"-style vandalism, and has been blocked by the real q:User:InvisibleSun. Thinking back over the situation, I see the only person who asked for both q:User:DragonFire1024 and q:User:Nyarlathotep to be unblocked was q:User:65.78.87.120, forging your signature. I hope you understand that, at the time of the attack and my blocking, the two apparent Wikinews sysops who'd just created WQ usernames and engaged in a vandalism discussion on q:WQ:AN made indistinguishably similar posts, and yet one was a legit user and one was a vandal. This pattern is why I did the premptive block, and my haste to release that block at your request, before I'd completed my analysis, cost us another round of vandalism.
I hope that you, the real Nyarlathotep, and other Wikinews sysops will carefully analyze your user creation logs and user postings from the past two days to separate the imposters from the good-faith new users. (I can practically guarantee you that you have at least one recently created vandal account that has made no suspicious edits yet, as this is S.O.P. for this vandal, but there's probably not much you can do about it.) Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. Thank you for your attention. ~ Jeffq 04:53, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Has anyone with asthma needed to go to hospital from the tube disaster today? I think the NHS has a policy of not admitting people with asthma to hospital these days. The tube is usually relatively safe for asthmatics since the no smoking rule was extended to staff whereas bus drivers usually smoke, So I expect a greater propotion of those present will have been asthmatics than in the greneral population. 87.194.35.230 12:00, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Local only" tag

edit

I noticed your recent publish of In depth: Buffalo, N.Y. hotel proposal controversy includes the [[category:Local only]] tag.

I clicked on the portal New York, expecting to see the news story listed there, but it wasn't. This needs to be fixed.

I'll never forget your comment, about when attending a protest rally against the hotel development, you said that you spoke to someone with no knowledge of who you were, and the person said, "I read about it on Wikinews."

Best regards. -Edbrown05 11:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

oh, now I do see it recorded in the alphabetical list: [1], [2], [3] -Edbrown05 12:00, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
If the intention is to keep it off the Main Page, the intention is not necessarily to keep it off the Latest news sections of Topic and Region pages. -Edbrown05 12:03, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
actually, if we have enough number of such in-depth article series, we shld put it on the main page, perhaps with the "Exclusives" list. i know cartmanau used to do an aussie politics series ... perhaps time to put up the idea on cooler.  — Doldrums(talk) 14:53, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well yes, I understand the thinking now is eveything goes on the Main Page. But the 'Local only' tag is not doing the job to supoort news story creation for portals where regional and topical news is reported. Articles that would not appear on the Main Page should appear on the 'Latest news' sections of Portal and Category pages. That is after all the purpose of their existence, to allow for special interest and a more bottom-to-top news creation.
If the double-edged sword of international and local news reporting is to be employed at Wikinews, then support for stories written locally must be supported better. -Edbrown05 09:26, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merry Christmas!

HO HO HO! These people got no presents from me this year.
FellowWikiNews is whishing thou a Merry very pegan Christmas , Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever thou calls it, and
realised they had purposefully forgotten about thou. This user is completely thoughtless, doesn't care about Season's Greetings,
and therefore DEMANDS you have yourself a Merry Christmas... NOW!

Failure to comply will result in going to jail with Santa. (Note: Santa is Satan spelt backwards)!

Christmas Story (Children Friendly):

So kids, is Santa Democrat or Republican??!

Often depicted as an obese man wearing a tasteless red, ermine trimmed suit, Santa Claus is a self-employed Caucasian male who's been married to the same woman for several centuries. It appears likely that he is a churchgoer, insofar as he is a Catholic saint and a former bishop. It has to be assumed here that Claus was released from his vows, or else he would not have been married.

Frequent arguments have erupted over the political affiliation of Claus. Ten years ago, Dick Cheney inadvertently dealt a savage blow to the morale of the Republican Party when he misidentified the political affiliation of Santa Claus in his best-selling book, Parliament of Whores. "Santa Claus," he said, "is a Democrat." However it is perfectly obvious from his demographic profile alone that Santa is in fact a Republican.

This assessment is often rebutted by Democrats with Anne-McCaffery counter-analysis: Santa Claus has no children. High-achieving professionals without children trend Democratic. While the Clausian canon does not specifically address the issue of Santa's children, numerous extra-canonical sources suggest that Claus did, in fact, reproduce. Numerous Christmas TV movie specials alone support this point.

Santa is renowned for an aggressive adherence to a binary naughty/nice list, which suggests an impatience for nuanced moral positions that betrays his Republican preferences. Santa's mere willingness to define individuals along a naughty/nice axis demonstrates his indifference to the philosophical stance of, say, The New York Times. And note that no canonical or extra-canonical Clausian text indicates that Santa ever attended college or, God forbid, graduate school.

THE END!!!
