Welcome

Cllewr, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Dan100 (Talk) 20:46, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Fair use

edit

Hi there!

I had to delete Image:Terri Schiavo.jpg, as it lacked a proper fair use tag. I recognized it as an image that was frequently used on CNN; as such, it is almost certainly not legal for us to use it as fair use (the context is competitive). Wikinews distinguishes between free media (under free licenses) which can be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons, using the "Upload free media" link, and fair use media, which can be uploaded locally. However, fair use is very limited; the list of exceptions where we allow it can be found at Wikinews:Fair use. Generally, when it comes to images from other websites, when in doubt, it's generally best not to upload them, or Wikinews could get in trouble for violating copyrights. News Contest

edit

Fellow judge, I could use your input on how to handle an issue that has come up, at the "Judge's Forum" section here:

Help !

edit

Note to other English-language judges: I feel I am doing a disproportionate amount of the judging of English-language articles. Ideally, I would like to see all judges render an opinion on all articles in their language. I will not be doing any judging today, so could especially use some help now. Also, please respond to the issues I have raised on previous dates in the Judge's Forum:

PS: I saw your disclaimer about not being able to spend much time judging, but any little bit would help.

Nintendo unveils controller for Revolution console

edit

Hey, I noticed your substantial edit on it, and I would like to thank you for it. However, I noticed you removed the picture of the controller itself. What was your motivation in doing so? Be sure to reply on my talk page. Messedrocker 18:18, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I know, I'm on #wikinews and I heard about how the pictures weren't from Nintendo's site, so they couldn't qualify. I reuploaded a picture, this time, from Nintendo's site. Messedrocker 19:03, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

News briefs

edit

Hey there! Great job on your latest Brief. On the transcript page, could you please include [[Category:Brief]] on all new brief pages? Without it, they get caught in the Developing box, and well - they kind of irritate some users there.  :). Thanks. --MrMiscellanious (talk) (contribs) 20:40, 1 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Rfda

edit

This is a message to inform you that I have added every administrator to the Rfda section on WN:A. This is not personal and I feel as if the community, who did not have the option of voting for or against most of the administrators, should be able to choose who they want to be in charge. I also want to say that I value everyones work on this site and I know that everyone does their best. I hope that none of you will take this personally and I hope that all of us will continue to work together. Jason Safoutin 12:10, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
