We need more

As great as this is, we need a federal bill to allow equality for all. Not just by state.

DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon)10:19, 26 June 2011

Unfortunately that's not very likely to happen, there are more states out there currently that would vote against it than there are that would vote for it. What we really need is a court case taken to the supreme court from say a couple that got married in a state where it was legal and then moved to a state that it wasn't, and where said state refuses marriage benefits to said couple.

Interestingly, one of my colleagues at work married her partner in New York state when same-sex marriage was, previously, legal.

When they revoked the law, her marriage was no longer recognised; she was deemed to have overstayed her visa by years and, was arrested by immigration and spent nine months in jail. Yes, they went to the house where she lived with her partner and took her out, hands handcuffed behind her back, between two officers making sure her feet didn't touch the ground.

That's the ugly face of people who're against gay marriage.

I prefer to see it as the ugly face of people who think they can flaunt the immigration laws of this country. You are not special because you are gay. Laws still apply to you. Enjoy living in whatever third-world hellhole you belong in. 24.159.22.26 (talk) 18:09, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

So lets cheat the system because you, being the minority, knows what is right/best for the majority? It's not like America is democratic state in which majority rules, OH WAIT its a representative republic in which the elected representatives cower to the loud mouth minoritys. Remember kids peer pressure is good.

Crazynomad (talk)23:41, 27 June 2011

The US is not supposed to be majoritarian; workable representative democracy is a lot subtler than that.

Pi zero (talk)00:23, 28 June 2011

Ah but it was then we took power away from the states after the civil war, that ended the people having anykind of power.
