Interview edit

For the past month, I've been working by phone to arrange an interview with Indiana State Senator Mike Delph. With the end of the legislative session and the end of the spring break at the University, we set the interview to be held at UTC time, midnight, March 27, 2014. We will be recording from a sound booth at the WSWI radio station, known as The Edge, with a phone to sound booth connection. The radio station is affiliated with the University of Southern Indiana. After the interview, we will transcribe it and upload the audio and release it into Creative Commons. The introduction and current sources that serve as the basis of the exclusive newsmaker interview is currently posted. Crtew (talk) 16:57, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Trivium edit

Kokomo tribune says they won't let me view their article unless I have cookies enabled. The thing is, I specifically enabled cookies from their site; so it looks as if they won't let me view the article unless I enable cookies from third party sites. I can't think of anything rude enough to describe my opinion of that suggestion. I don't have a throwaway computer to indulge them with. I may be able to read the article through their grey-out, sufficiently for the purpose. --Pi zero (talk) 17:18, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

The AP story is also carried in full at the New-Sentinel out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Crtew (talk) 17:34, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I got around the problem anyway; it wasn't difficult, as the folks running that site clearly don't understand very well how the internet works (I hear it's a series of tubes). Not that I'm any less annoyed with them. --Pi zero (talk) 18:41, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Intro pre-reviewed edit

I've pre-reviewed the intro, and believe it to be fine now. --Pi zero (talk) 18:42, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Crtew (talk) 19:07, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Template edit

The template Audio wikinews template looks good but it's too specific for that content. I've looked at several audio templates that are used for the reading of a written piece that are called "Listen to this story". In a pinch, I believe we could use those. The problem is that those are normally used as a substitute to reading, whereas what we are doing is presenting an audio interview that can also be read with text as a supplement to the audio. It doesn't seem to me that we have anything specific for this purpose. Crtew (talk) 19:07, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Spell check edit

Here are my notes of the independent spell check for people who are not mentioned and linked in Wikipedia:

Lt. Colonel Ray Mejia. Mejia is a Lt. Colonel. Sometimes when we use that rank in oral speech, we drop the Lt. part. In the transcript, it would be better if we put the title in parentheses, like this (Lt.) before Colonel, on first use.Crtew (talk) 20:51, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

The IHSAA edit

The Indiana High School Athletic Association is actually in the news just today as the finals for HS are Saturday. Along with this is being mentioned for the role he played in bring back single class for debate and consideration. Crtew (talk) 19:53, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Correction edit

There are several transcription errors that were caught on playback and one name check. Blake Ress is the correct spelling of the IHSAA commisssioner nwtimes My source for the previous name check was not as good but a search on Ress brings up more accurate and reliable sources. With two adjustments, I've sighted. One of those adjustments was that I let the 60 years through only with an indication of editorial uncertainty after it; because I've listened to the recording and I really don't hear him saying "sixty". I hear him saying something that, absent context, I wouldn't have hesitated to transcribe as "six". If told he said "sixty", I can't say for sure that he didn't, but the "-ty" syllable isn't distinct enough to be sure it's there. (It seems I oughtn't be completely thrown by an Indiana accent, since my father was from those parts.) --Pi zero (talk) 23:31, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes it's very hard to make out the difference between 6 and 60. My gut tells me 6 isn't very impressive. But here's another source that says it's 60 years. Politico Crtew (talk) 00:52, 30 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ahh. I figured a source might be dug up to confirm it, given some time in which to dig. But while one might consider, at leisure, whether to remove an editorial "[?]" after the 24-hour horizon past publication, changing 6 to 60 definitely needed sighting within the horizon (which it was, by a narrow margin). So we're good. --Pi zero (talk) 01:52, 30 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
