Talk:Wikinews attends Texas Haunters Convention
OR Notes
edit- My son and I will attend this event on the 27th & 28th in Mesquite, Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth area).
I just sent this email to the 'Vendor' coordinator: "Hello Culley,
I'm working on an article (about the convention) for Wikinews.org
How many vendors will be at the convention??
Have any traveled a significant distance to attend??
My son and I will be attending! Hope I get a chance to meet you!!
Paul M. Budd" --Bddpaux (talk) 15:56, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- This is the resonse (in part) I received on Friday at 4:33pm local time
"We currently have 77 vendors from as far away as California to Florida." --Bddpaux (talk) 16:49, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

General notes
editI caught a brief minute of the shrunken head class on Sat., it was actually done at a vendor's booth.--Bddpaux (talk) 16:26, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
An interesting custom escape room was on hand, allowing VIP guests to play through. --Bddpaux (talk) 19:09, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
My son and I attended the class to make the 'bubbler' prop......cool prop, but didn't get to finish the build. --Bddpaux (talk) 21:41, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
One of the event organizers told me the rough square footage. --Bddpaux (talk) 22:06, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
Interview with Joshua Winch
editSunday interview with J. Winch @ 10:46AM [He lives in the DFW area]
Stated he has done a great deal of horror comedy films. --Bddpaux (talk) 19:21, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
Producer/director, started acting in theater over 20 years ago. Worked on several films as a Production Assistant. Starting producing films writers brought him beginning in 2004. "Theater was my love." Has done a great bit of horror comedy work. States he grew tired of reading reviews that said the films he'd made, "....weren't horror because they were comedy." So he contacted a writer he knew and said: "I want you to make a pure horror movie." The result of Fall of Grace. It has been in 14 film festivals, he won Best Actor in one of those. --Bddpaux (talk) 21:45, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
All in!
editI could write another 2,000 words, but I have to wrap things up! --Bddpaux (talk) 22:00, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
Pre-review comments
edit- The lede paragraph should really explain better what the event is. As of now, the paragraph covers when and where, but not who and what. It could use a touch of why as well, even if it may seem self-explanatory why people hold conventions.
- The images are fine, albeit small. Cropping them to square is your own choice, but I hope you are not compressing or otherwise reducing the image quality unnecessarily. Also, is there no image of Joshua Winch whom you interviewed? Just his banner?
@Bddpaux: Thanks for the submission. Cheers, --SVTCobra 23:17, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- In terms of the lede, I modified things a bit. [From the event page's tagline.] --Bddpaux (talk) 14:45, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- No compression on my end. And, yep: my photo skills weren't in exactly the highest of form.....but I got the corner of his head!--Bddpaux (talk) 14:48, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Looking at the lede as I begin review, the added sentence about why won't suffice for international readers without some explicit reference to Halloween, and the lede is still missing who. I'll be thinking about whether these can be tweaked within reviewer's purview (keeping in mind, we'd rather not have this run longer if avoidable). --Pi zero (talk) 14:41, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- I think I see the difficulty with who, the convention being operated by a group that exists to run the convention. --Pi zero (talk) 15:05, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- If it helps, they don't really have a formal "name" per se; the main media/registration manager was a guy named Matthew. I think there were about 7 people (total). They have each been loosely involved in this event in the past. It was (previously) put on by a gentleman who passed away last year (two weeks before the event was set to open, so it didn't happen).--Bddpaux (talk) 18:22, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

- Handwritten notes, honestly! Should've scanned/posted a bunch of them, but just couldn't get myself together enough to make that happen. I did attend Mr. CreepyPasta's presentation and I did attend the belly dancing bit. --Bddpaux (talk) 18:02, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
