Statement from Socialist Party spokesman Nick Chaffey:

The courageous stand of the Vestas occupation and the huge support that stands alongside it from Vestas workers and beyond has rocked management and the government. With the vital support of the RMT and wider support from the trade union movement including PCS, POA and FBU, the workers demand for nationalisation is the only way to resolve this crisis. Despite the government minister Miliband calling for the development of 5000 wind turbines and providing £1 billion worth of credits available for green technology, Vestas management and the government say the market isn't there and the opposition to planning prevents further development. When nuclear power stations are suggested as a solution to the energy crisis no planning issues are raised as an obstacle. All this proves is the failure of the market to deliver. Despite the attempts of management and government to get off the hook support for the workers growa and their call for nationalisation. The vital task is to mobilise the trade union support and wider support of workers and communities across the IOW to force the governement to act. Despite managements efforts to bully and intimidate the occupation Vestas workers are determined to stay put and see this factory stay open.
