It's certainly not the law. No party affiliation is required by the US Constitution. He's certainly breaking ground by doing this. -Rich

I'll agree with Colbert why I think he could be right when he says "I am not ready to announce yet — even though it's clear that the voters are desperate for a white, male, middle-aged, Jesus-trumpeting alternative". All cautions are welcome in this specific subject. Questions sorrounding his life couldn't have easy solution on future life projects. Kermit
In response to 86.140.226.39, a third party or independent hasn't won a SINGLE presidential election since the Republican and Democrat juggernaut parties were established about 100 years ago. it's not law, its just how things work. I think it is unfortunate, about 40% of eligible voters don't vote, and half of the ones that do vote are independent... Contralya 19:33, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Colbert for President!
It would be the single most amazing even in the history of the United States if he was actually elected. It would be just like "Man of the Year" but better and without the crappy computer manipulation subplot.
While I understand this is a joke...I do not believe it is impossible. If he were to take this seriously he would not be completely rediculous in doing so. The fact is he would not need to convince anybody under the age of 25 and would probaby spur absolute records in youth voting simply because they would want to take part in it. If he could get our 80 percent of the youth vote and have them vote for him, and then convince 10-15 percent of the rest of the 30 percent of the country that votes he could put up some numbers. If only it were possible.

I'm all for colbert/stewart running.. I know their both very smart guys and know alot about politics. Their job is essentially to reveiw everything thats happening in the political world and find whats messed up. They're more qualifeid then alot of the people in government right now...I mean Scwazenneger is governer of california. I don't know how many south carolinians are going to use their vote on a canidate that isn't fully running.. I know I would though, lol -70.42.116.9

Was Viggo Mortensen on The Colbert Report? edit
This is a question, not an opinion. During the September 2007 episode of the Report when Stephen considers running and asks for a sign, when a crazed knight runs onstage offering Colbert a sword (to Stephen, a "letter opener"), was that knight Viggo? It really looked like him... I'd really appreciate an answer to this question. Thanks.
