Talk:Murder, rape of Albert Namatjira's great-granddaughter makes belated news
Not news?
editI realise that this event is 2 months old, however it has only just been reported in the national media, and the police investigation and trials are still ongoing. - Borofkin 04:26, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- News which is delayed for any reason, especially a newsworthy reason, is still news. Nyarlathotep 10:06, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Terrible
editI think there is a connection between coalition soldiers openly and freely using Iraqi heads as soccer balls and this type of violence among coalition teens. Call me crazy. Neutralizer 13:58, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Confused
editI'm a bit confused by this statement:
- If she had been bashed and left for dead almost anywhere else, assistance would have been immediate and the outrage strident.
Is Alice Springs considered to be a place where racism against aborigines is particularly rife? Or is he talking about Australia in general as in if she had been bashed in NZ or some other country? Nil Einne 21:37, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- Alice Springs has a number of "camps" which have endemic social problems, mostly related to alcohol. I suspect he means that it is so common to see someone lying unconscious in the gutter that she was ignored by passers by, whereas in another place someone would have checked her, regardless of race. Consider also this story about Delmae Barton. Race is an issue in both incidents, of course. - Borofkin 00:34, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations
editThankyou to Borofkin for puttinng this one together. More of us should take the time to reseach and present such issues. Good work. --elliot_k 13:59, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
