Talk:Girls sweep Siemens science competition for US high schools

Is it me or does this sentence need to be fixed: "While many saw the competition results as a good sign, other commented that females will only have reached equality with males in science was when girls doing better than boys would not lead to headlines." Hmm, I may not have phrased that well. How about "Many commentators have called the results a sign that the gap between males and females in the sciences is closing or has closed. However, other commentators have said that that females will only have reached equality with males in science was when triumphs such as this one are so routine as to not merit headlines". Tiny conflict of interest edit

So I haven't decided if this constitutes me being scrupulous about possible conflicts or whether it is me just tooting my own horn slightly, but I feel obligated to disclose that I was a semi-finalist in the Siemens competition my senior year in high school (semi-finalist is the lowest level that gets any recognition at all. For comparison there are about 8 or so per a state). JoshuaZ 02:47, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see no conflict, just that it explains your interest. If you were in it this year then obviously ... --SVTCobra 02:54, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category edit

I didn't remove it, but exactly why is Category:Human rights on this article? --SVTCobra 02:54, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not sure. It was added by FellowWikiNews. Maybe because of the gender issue involved? I can see a tiny bit where it might make sense but I don't think the connection is strong enough to justify including in that category. If no one strongly objects I think I'll remove the category. Yes, that is why I added it. But I agree, before I added it I thought the connection was not strong enough. No problem with removing it. FellowWiki Newsie 03:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it would be appropriate to remove it. It's not like the girls were previously banned from competing. --SVTCobra 03:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
