Truly breaking

edit

As with the other article ("Justin Trudeau survives confidence vote"), are there expected, new developments to come out of this event very soon, such as within 24 hours? What is the justification for prioritizing this as breaking? —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 13:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

How did this happenm ~Was it part of a UN meeting? If so then how was this meeting called? (this needs to be included into the firsr paragraph now) @BilboBeggins
What was the response from Wednesday or Thursday? it was expected to be received within "hours". (possibly reason why news was considered & tagged as breaking) (this needs to be updated now) Gryllida (talk) 10:43, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Some of responses back then were conflicting, but seeing what happened on Friday and Saturday we can see that response was determined 'no'. Basically it is pretty difficult now to imagine that there will be any kind of ceasefire, seeing that Hesbollah leadership was wiped out, which some news outlets mentioned.
There are many new developments that changed much, but the news was still true at that time. BilboBeggins (talk) 13:00, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
The justification was that the events were changing rapidly, and that this ceasefire proposal could be agreed on or rejected soon. BilboBeggins (talk) 12:55, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Considering that Hesbollah leader (who had authority to agree to ceasefire) was killed on 27, ot was pretty much breaking news.
Sorry, didn't see your comment at that time, only today. BilboBeggins (talk) 13:03, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @BilboBeggins can you please write about the leader killed as part of same story -- it can be renamed to update title - and re-submit? If you're going to be away next couple days and unable to work on it, please let me know. (Please confirm you got this message) Thanks. Gryllida (talk) 01:06, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
But these are new, other developments, it would make sense to write about them in separate stories.
I can't see how peace initiatives and the reactions to them could be followed by assassination and describing its consequences. Only if in one line. BilboBeggins (talk) 06:01, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is still another two days or so for writing this for the initial call for ceasefire. Did you understand how it happened? The UN press releases about general assembly do not have a piece about it. Gryllida (talk) 06:21, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Asked for help here (international relations wikiproject at english wikipedia) and there (wp refdesk). Gryllida (talk) 06:26, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
This call has no official relation to any UN business. It was not issued on behalf of a UN body or during a UN meeting. It was issued following a UN meeting by some of the people who has been present at that meeting, and in issuing it they represented their governments. Hi @Lambiam Thanks! How did they issue it then? Sign a long paper document? And then how did the other place (e.g. Israel and Hezbollah) know of it? After official UN meeting is closed I simply do not understand how it works. Gryllida (talk) 13:29, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Any bunch of people, like you and me, can get together at any time, draw up some text (like e.g. "We demand that MacDonalds in Springfield, Ohio, stop serving catburgers") and send it around as a press release. If the two of us do this, it will likely not be picked up by any media. If the people in question include Biden and Macron, it is bound to attract some publicity. The White House regularly issues releases; reporters routinely look for these and will have found this statement published on the White House website on September 25, 2024, among several others, such as a joint declaration of support for recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine by the G7.
