BRS flagged this out recently because of the missing audio. It appears to have been randomly deleted, with a few others, for no sane reason; I'm afraid to bring it up with a Commoner lest I choose one who like to harass Wikinews and they take the opportunity to arbitrarily delete more of our stuff. For missing images I have a template {{missing image}}, and I'd like to create an analogous {{missing audio}} one of these times so we don't just lose track of these. --Pi zero (talk) 12:44, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
It begs the question, is audio content? I'd suggest asking @Green Giant: for Commons assistance but they seem to have themselves gone inactive during my last period of inactivity. BRS (Talk) (Contribs) 13:10, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think an audio representation of the text of an article isn't fully content in the sense of being covered by the archive conventions, although perhaps one oughtn't be too cavalier about it; I believe I may once or twice have allowed adding it a bit after the 24-hour horizon. Though I'd still like to keep track of which articles it's been removed from; in particular, the {{missing image}} template doesn't show the reader a redlink, but does create a hidden use of the image so that if someone on Commons does a query to see whether the deleted image is used anywhere, they'll be told it's used on en.wn. So we're on the record as having an interest in that image; and that principle also should apply to deleted audios. --Pi zero (talk) 13:47, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I've temporarily undeleted the file so we can have a look at it. I'm using a mobile device in a meeting at the moment so I can't listen to it just yet. It was deleted because there did not appear to be a license at Commons. I'm not sure if an argument could be made that the WN CC-BY-2.5 applies because it specifically reproduces the text in spoken form i.e. it is a re-use of the licensed text and would be automatically issued under the same license as long as attribution takes place. The file page attempts to link to a list of authors, although it doesn't work. So my guess is it might be better if it could be transferred to WN, if the admins here are amenable (@Pi zero: @Blood Red Sandman:).
Let me know which other files have been deleted and I will undelete so they can be looked at properly. By the way I am indeed quite inactive at the moment due to upcoming exams and assessments. I will probably become more active in the second half of January. Green Giant (talk) 15:58, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

This audio file was created from the text revision dated 2006-06-23 and may not reflect subsequent text edits to this report. (audio help)
Since it's been proposed the audio template may be removed in a case like this — I take it the idea is that, unlike an image choice, the audio is not actually content but merely a second representation of the content already there — I'm adding the audio template here on the talk page. By generating a redlink and a template transclusion, this provides a record of the use of the audio file, traceable through the wikisoftware both here and (I think) on Commons. --Pi zero (talk) 14:31, 19 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
