According to DNA India Newspaper their are many flaws in selection of rupee symbol.
Indian broadcasting and information minister Ambika Soni,told the media that the cabinet’s discussions did not touch upon claims of flaws in the selection process.
When asked about RTI activist claims about the selection process, a member of the jury, who did not want to be identified, said the jury was not aware of the RTI application.
Whoa... I'm glad I'm not Indian - no matter how meaningful it is, it's certainly hard to write!

The Canadian dollar uses the same symbol as the US dollar. It's simply a dollar sign, not specific to a specific country.
The Canadian and Australian dollar share the $ it is common for ALL countries that use the dollar. I hate to be a nit picker, but Canada's economy didn't crumble like everyone else's.
'The other currencies with a symbol...' A very odd claim. Canadian dollars, Australian dollars, Barbadian dollars, Colombian pesos, Mexican pesos, Guernsey pounds, Falklands pounds... etc., etc.
Or indeed w:Currency sign, where there are dozens. I was quite puzzled by that bit of the article myself. It looks like it could come from a misreading of the Reuters article.
