Renaming

edit

@Pi zero: I think this category requires renaming. Shari'a literally means "law". I propose "Shari'a" or "Sharia" to be the name of the new category. |usage note= should properly highlight how to use it. It has just 38 articles in it. It should be easier than something like Taliban. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, the terminology "Sharia law" is just about universal in general conversation in the US, and the en.wp article acknowledges it's an alternative, but... USians are (er) awfully USian, the Wikidata page doesn't even list it amongst alternative names, and we appear to be an outlier in our page name. So I'd have to agree, we should rename.

A category name with an apostrophe in it is harder to handle (requiring, for example, a special parameter to {{topic cat}} to get around a limitation of the software platform and make the DPL work right); which doesn't mean we shouldn't use the apostrophe, necessarily, but does mean we should be confident of our reasons if we do. --Pi zero (talk) 13:33, 12 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Acagastya: If you don't have a particular preference for the apostrophe, I suggest "Sharia", without an apostrophe. Looking at the Wikidata item, the only languages that have chosen to use an apostrophe are Hausa, Italian, and Vietnamese. --Pi zero (talk) 14:51, 12 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Moving to CAT:Shari'a now.
