Wikinews:Water cooler/proposals/archives/2015/May

There should be a page were users can request for some other user to create a new article.

For example no one has covered anything about the reacent massive earthquake in Nepal. Doorknob747 (talk) 20:56, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Doorknob747: This week, our review process has been overwhelmed by a large number of student articles; to the point where it's reduced the rate at which we get articles published (because of the review time that goes into reviews that don't result in publications). Two articles, in fact, were about the Nepal earthquake, but at least one of them, possibly both, didn't get reviewed in time. We have long-term plans to address the sometime-labor-shortage problem, but that's long-term.
There is a page for requesting articles, but it was never very successful, because writing a news article is a significant effort (even for those who have gotten good at it), so people are mostly going to cover what they are interested in covering, rather than what somebody else requests. If you want something covered on Wikinews, the thing to do is to read WN:PILLARS, WN:WRITE, maybe WN:Article wizard (you may choose to read WN:SG for good measure; it is kept short just so it can be read straight through), and try your hand at writing yourself. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 21:21, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
