Erica Powell

I have just written an en:wiki article based largely on this story about Erica Powell. Could a link be added from the news article to the new en:wiki article. thanks Victuallers (talk) 12:55, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Victuallers: Will do. Note, the article you're referencing is from before we put our review process in place, so it hasn't necessarily been vetted. It appears to have been written entirely by User:Natsubee (who is still contributing to the sisterhood, I see, but has been inactive on Wikinews since mid-2008). While I'm looking at the article, I'll see what more I can say about its vetting status.

@Victuallers: Here's what I found, re the vetting status of the article.
  • I see the en.wp article cites two out of three of the sources of the Wikinews article. I snagged an Internet Archive link for the one of our sources not cited at en.wp (in The Independent); on the other hand, I couldn't access the Times source, which is paywalled.
  • Some passages are closer to the sources than I would allow when reviewing an article today. For example, the sentence about the shorthand-and-typing exams is verbatim (except for one word) from The Independent (and I see the same sentence is now reproduced in the en.wp article).
  • Some details I was unable to verify from the sources I can access. She was sacked in 1954, but I was unable to verify that she returned to the UK at that time, nor the date of her return to Ghana. I couldn't tell clearly just how many rumors, and how much resentment, there were. Couldn't verify about NKrumah's funeral.

Thanks @Pi zero: - I have included many of your points. I wonder how many more biogs might be in Wikinews but not on en:wiki. Cheers. Victuallers (talk) 17:17, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Victuallers: An interesting question. We have atm 829 obituaries (about 3.77% of our archives). --Pi zero (talk) 18:49, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
