Welcome
editHammondJr~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! They only have one article. Usually we create portals and categories when the subject has five or more articles. I am going to list them at WN:DR. —FellowWiki Newsie 13:43, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- I voted delete on WN:DR because your article is from Oct 3. We cannot publish old news items, it needs to go on the main page first so people can read it. It also wouldn't make sense publishing it today, because the news is from Oct. 3. I suggest you find a recent news item on Nortel and write about it, I will help to publish it if you want me to. This report is far too old to publish. —FellowWiki Newsie 20:48, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- The DR was abandoned. —FellowWiki Newsie 21:33, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, I am looking for new information.HammondJr 21:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Right now the article is lacking a mention of other companies doing the same thing, which will make the article more neutral and not one-sided. Without this the article can't be published because it is an advertisement showing only one-sides view. —FellowWiki Newsie 21:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I added a statement at the bottom and added a ref to the IBM news release.... I don't know who that was - My IP is - 68.34.46.2. HammondJr 22:37, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- The article is published now. But you should add what IBM and Cisco are offering, not just what Nortel and Microsoft are offering. That would be good. —FellowWiki Newsie 23:04, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I will have to look, I think the integrated Cisco/IBM products are still in development, but I will so some looking around... HammondJr 23:15, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I found it; part of the Lotus API, so I added to the new that it is based on the Lotus API. Thanks again for helping me to get this accomplished. HammondJr 23:41, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Regarding this recently uploaded image, please provide details of its source and license otherwise it will be deleted. Adambro 22:34, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Adambro, I want the image deleted by -FellowWiki Newsie, because he has the impression that I changed the tag to publish, without his permission. I am not in the habit of upsetting a ADMIN to get kicked off the system, so this was just proof that I was working with him to get this news published in an appropriate manner... HammondJr 22:42, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I see that it wasn't you. I will delete the image now. —FellowWiki Newsie 22:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks... HammondJr 22:46, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I see that it wasn't you. I will delete the image now. —FellowWiki Newsie 22:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called HammondJr. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name HammondJr~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
