College article

Nice work. I moved the "unsorted" subpage to your user namespace: User:Christopherlin/Colleges_offering_admission_to_displaced_New_Orleans_students/Unsorted, because anything in the main namespace not otherwise categorized shows up in the "developing stories" list. (this was done to insure against articles getting "orphaned".) Kevin Baas^talk 16:38, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

Splitting the Katrina page

The page is getting a bit overlarge, but I don't want to start splitting it without reaching some consensus on how. This is the scheme I've come up with. It creates a certain amount of redundancy, which will make updates a bit of a pain, but should optimize the accessability of information:

Main page: Splits into pages for undergrads, grad and professional students, and faculty. Of these, the undergraduate catagory is currently the only one large enough to require further splitting; I would suggest splitting it first into schools that will only accept local students, and schools that will take all comers. That way, students are more likely to be able to access information immediately relevant to them. If further splitting is required, then the best I can think of is to just divide the states in half alphabetically.

Any thoughts?

102k... Wow. Originally, the point of this was to make it easier for people to add their own schools or any they come across, without having to go through a single LiveJournal user. That and the LJ size limits. The large list I've been merging in is now in 3 separate posts; I think the post size limit is ~60k. It could be ~30k, I don't know.

Merging already means finding the location of almost every school, as it's not included in the list I've been working from.

Local only vs. all comers is a good idea, as is undergrad/grad-professional. By state is just a stopgap measure. --Christopherlin 21:26, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

I've also been doing an exhaustive state-by-state check of schools to try to accelerate the data collection process. That should be complete by late tonight, if all goes well. I'm going to propose we put off splitting until then, so we can minimize the amount of new information that has to be added after the split.
