Welcome edit
Betterliving~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Brian McNeil / talk 09:45, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Your first article edit
Just about to read fully, looks not to bad for starting. Only thing (which is nitpicking) is both your sources are from the BBC, it'd be nice to have a source from another agency or site. Also, (a really minor nit) Use "BBC News Online". In the {{source}} template the text for the publisher name is linked to Wikipedia. BBC works, but BBC News Online goes direct to the article about their news website. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:45, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Disregard the bit about sources, I was reading a diff - you've got a plethora :-) --Brian McNeil / talk 09:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
A more personalised welcome, and something to add to your Userpage edit

I, Brian McNeil, herby award a WikiStar to Betterliving for turning up out of the blue, and doing an interesting article that only needed minor copyedit. Here's hoping this is the first of many. Betterliving received this award on November 5, 2007 |
Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Betterliving. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Betterliving~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
