edit conflicts

You might want to be cautious about editing an article someone else is currently writing, as your edits could cause edit conflicts with larger edits the primary author is working on. Just a thought. --Pi zero (talk) 21:40, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I didn't think of that when taking on your question earlier. :-S  --Pi zero (talk) 21:46, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
It's a good thing I copied what I had done before because otherwise I would have lost everything I just did and then I'd be very upset.--William S. Saturn (talk) 22:19, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Pi zero: @William S. Saturn: I am sorry for such plausible nuisance. I will notify the editor first about it. And then after proper informing, I will make changes. Will be careful from next time.

All this would be a much lesser problem if the wiki software didn't do such a poor job of handling edit conflicts. A reminder for me, as I work on my dialog tools, of the importance of good error-handling. --Pi zero (talk) 17:50, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

blocking

It's published. So, I should block you now? For how long? --Pi zero (talk) 21:06, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Pi zero: Block me till May. I know it is too much. But I have to study 1st year engineering and prepare for M.B.B.S. as well. If there is any change, I will let you know via mail or talk page. 1st of May. 12 p.m. UTC. I will try to make articles on my talk page. But only if I get time. I will feel bad for not being active on this wonderful sister project. But After this year, when I have only one subject to deal with, I will be back!
Please block me till 1st May 12 p.m. UTC.

It makes me happy that a better number of articles are being developed in past few days. I hope to see a good number of articles here when I return. I feel so bad. Leaving this family behind. But I don't know. I hope I get MBBS next year and then I make a new comeback.
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 21:40, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Blocked. The blocking interface takes a duration, so whether I got it right, we'll see. It's possible I got the arithmetic right. --Pi zero (talk) 21:46, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Just 6 minutes difference. Thank you! I hope many people join and contribute here. And engage you. In reviewing. :)

You're most welcome. Thanks. And, good luck. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 22:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

On Saturday, Manchester based football club Manchester United defeated Tottenham based football club Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 that was played in Old Trafford stadium in Greater Manchester. It was the first match of Premier League 2015-2016.

Both the teams had 50% possession of the ball. The match saw only five yellow cards, two for The Red Devils and three for away players. A total of 24 fouls were committed in the match. Twelve by each side.

In the 22nd minute, Kyle Walker scored an own goal which gave Manchester United 3-win-points. Manchester United's defender Chris Smalling was awarded Man of The Match. Harry Kane did display his skill during the game, but was not fortunate enough to score.

New signings

Manchester United had five players debutants. Those five were Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero, French defender Morgan Schneiderlin, Italian full back Matteo Darmian and 21-year-old Dutch winger Memphis Depay. Ex-Bayern Munich midfeilder Bastian Schweinsteiger was substituted in at 60th minute.

After match events

After the match, Walker said, "I tried to stick my foot in the way so that [Rooney would] kick my foot instead of the ball, so it's a bit unlucky really as I'd made up a lot of ground to get there. We just look onwards and upwards to our next game."

Louis van Gaal spoke about Spaniard David de Gea that "I'm not the most important part with De Gea. The most important part is the player and the club who wants to buy him. He's our best player for the past two or three years so we cannot let him go so easily. We want to sell at the same level as we pay. We want to keep him of course."

Edit request

@Pi zero: or @DragonFire1024: Please add Sports category to FC Barcelona defeats AS Roma 3-0 to win 2015 Joan Gamper Trophy article. I can't believe it that I forgot to add such an important category adding lesser important categories!

Done.
I'm not sure what you're trying to do with that "article" on the talk page, though. If you mean to write articles, I should unblock you so you can actually do so; and if you really mean to discipline yourself to not contribute to Wikinews... :-S  --Pi zero (talk) 18:36, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Pi zero: thank you for adding it. Next category request is Barclays Premier League (also called Premier League).

Well, it is a boring Saturday with no classes and my free time is going on. That's why I have made it. I had nothing to do plus an event happened so it is here. I won't go it again.

If you want to submit it, please create it as a separate page yourself. (Just log out and you can do so as an IP.) In theory I could copy it to a separate page for you, yes, and then click the submit button myself and review it myself. But it would look superficially an awful lot like self-reviewing, and I'd feel uncomfortable about it; I'm quite reluctant to go there, especially when there's really no technical barrier preventing you from submitting it yourself.
I can understand why you'd be reluctant to do it yourself. But, you know, ultimately you have to discipline yourself not to spend time on Wikinews this year; the block is sort of just a reminder. --Pi zero (talk) 00:35, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Btw, afaik the wiki software automatically generates a table of contents if there are at least four sections on the page. Which is why most Wikinews articles don't need __NOTOC__. --Pi zero (talk) 01:09, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Handling newcomers

A recommendation. On user talk pages, try to be as positive as possible under the circumstances. Some folks actually start with something like "Thanks for your interest in Wikinews", before saying what was done wrong; I find that a bit much, but I do tend to start with "Hi." And then, often, I'll mention WN:Pillars of Wikinews writing (the name of which I write out, rather than using the shortcut WN:PILLARS, because on Wikipedia "PILLARS" is more of a behavioral-guidelines sort of thing), typically followed by WN:Writing an article. When I do say "don't do that", I try to do so simply. If the situation is negative enough that I don't feel it's appropriate to start with PILLARS and WRITE, I may well put them after my stern warning. And I keep being as polite and positive as I can to these folks, even though it almost never works. Most of them we'll never hear from again, and those we do will often just cause more problems; but every once in a while somebody will catch the journalism contagion and become a Wikinewsie, and one of those is worth a great deal of the rest.

Granted, I'm describing my style, and it's our differences that make a community. User:Bddpaux has a more exuberant style, others less so. But I do recommend more emphasis on the positive, as part of pointing out that certain things aren't acceptable.

Of course, the fact that you're editing from an IP is likely to confuse the issue somewhat, especially since Wikinews really encourages contributors to get an account. --Pi zero (talk) 10:54, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

(And yes, I recognize you started, for example, your latest remark on somebody's user talk with "Hello!". I don't mean to be overly critical; just sharing some thoughts, since I am forever looking for ways to improve my style.) --Pi zero (talk) 11:02, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
