International Union for the Conservation of Nature released report updating European endemic trees species status. According to the report now in the European Red List of Trees 37% of 454 native tree species in Europe are “threatened.”. The key threats included "invasive and problematic" species, urbanisation, and human deforestation.

Of the 37% threatened species, 15% are “critically endangered.”, according to the report.

The authors of the report called for creation of protected areas, improvement of monitoring and research in the status of individual species.
