In the first game the #2 seed St. Cloud State beat the #3 seed Northern Michigan 4-3 in a game that went to two overtime periods. The game winning goal was scored by junior Tony Mosey on a power play 23 seconds into the second overtime period.

This was the first time the St. Cloud State Huskies have won a game in the NCAA tournament. This is the ninth trip to the NCAA tournament for the Huskies.
