Regarding the statement on Americans Elect and the role Buddy Roemer played in trying to win its nomination, I think in fairness to him and the public, the following should be noted;
1) Regardless of the hyper exaggerated claims by Americans Elect of there being over 400,000 delegates, this is a false statement. These numbers are assumed to be taken from people who simply started the registration process. In order to become an actual delegate, registered members had to submit the last 4 digits of their ss# and go through a somehwat confusing and what many people felt was an invasive q&a session to prove that they were indeed who they say they were and registered to vote. Failure rates were estimated by the Roemer campaign as well as other campaigns to be in excess of 50%-75% on the first attempt. Most people never returned and the ones who did often failed again and were lost for good. (Example: Harvard Professor and highly known campaign reformer Lawrence Lessig has 190,000 twitter followers. For approximately 6 weeks prior to the demise of AE, he regularly tweeted out to his followers with a link provided to go to AE and support Roemer. The same can be said of Roemer himself and all of his supporters as well as their supporters. The total Roemer support numbers numbers do not seem to make any sense even given the failure rate I listed above)
2) Of the (ACTUAL) total Americans Elect delegates who are estimated at being in the 20,000 to 30,000 range, none were ever actually solicited by any of the candidates because Americans Elect would not give the delegate list to any of the candidates.
Given the information above, I think a completely different picture is painted regarding the role Buddy Roemer played in the AE expiriment.
The above comment barely scratches the surface of the collosal mess that Americans Elect brought upon themselves. To verify my account, I literally had to answer a question that I could only guess (had to do with property owned by my EX WIFE, who I haven't even spoken to in years). I had to go back three times to get verified. This is just one of a dozen plus things AE staff foolishly did to screw up any chance they'd make a difference in this year's election, and there is no sign that they're changing directions, as they just closed shop and haven't purged the leadership that led them there.
