Parameter?
editPerhaps we should have a parameter on the template to specify what anticipated event the article is being kept for. Some of the articles placed in the prepared articles section in recent times are meant for refocus, so that one can't tell just be reading their content whether they have outlived their usefulness (whereas the five-day-expiry was written on the expectation it would be obvious when the event has passed); the parameter would be to give us a way of judging ongoing viability. The template message would incorporate the parameter when non-blank; when the parameter is blank, and perhaps even if not, there might be some mention of the parameter as a possible alternative to the five-day-expiry.
(I'm also hoping eventually we'll have a somewhat more systematic procedure for a "pre-review" sort of check on the verifiability of material in a prepared article, likely with some sort of support on the template; but, don't yet have a clear vision of how that would work.) --Pi zero (talk) 12:23, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed. You’ve kind of beaten me to it but having tagged a draft article with this template earlier, I realised there wasn’t anything to show why it was in preparation mode. A parameter for the anticipated event would be very useful. With some of the prepared stories it is unclear what exactly we are waiting for. I was thinking that this template could be incorporated into the {{tasks}} template as a parameter but it might be easier to keep it separate.
- In addition to the proposed parameter, I’d suggest having:
- a parameter indicating whether it is still being worked on or if it is pretty much ready, waiting for the anticipated event?
- a visible link to allow someone to search for a news source about the topic of the draft article?
- a sentence inviting others to contribute to the preparation?
- perhaps a date parameter similar to the {{abandoned}} template, so we can see when the draft article has expired?

- I've taken a stab at it, with parameters
event
anddate
(though I did consider calling themwhat
andwhen
). --Pi zero (talk) 04:05, 17 April 2020 (UTC)- Thank you for doing that. I’ve previewed it on a page and it looks fine. --Green Giant (talk) 06:28, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
