Talk:Wikinews' overview of the year 2007
Stories
editHow many stories are we looking for? What kind of stories? Primarily stories that appeal to the world at large? Primarily stories including original reporting or an exclusive interview? Greeves (talk • contribs) 23:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think all kinds...I think stories that would most impact the readers...I say we do a poll. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- I was thinking a classic overview with the main 2007 stories, and a separate section at the bottom with some "Wikinews pearls": top/featured coverage and stories, images and interviews. Anyone can contribute, we can always discuss on the talk page if you absolutely disagree to add/remove something. It's totally subjective what we select, in a way, because there's no way to prove that something is or isn't a main story, it's just general common sense. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:23, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Sources
editI have an issue with the fact that sources are not quoted for the summaries. I will therefore add links to the articles. You are free to remove them if you have aq problem with that --User:Anonymous101 18:13, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think most—if not all—of the articles are already linked. --SVTCobra 18:16, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
NPOV
editWhy may content violate the NPOV policy --User:Anonymous101 20:42, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. This is getting far too out of hand. We should do this page in NPOV not POV. —FellowWiki Newsie 21:58, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to address NPOV concerns. I think the selection and order of stories is inherently POV, but the summaries itself should adhere to NPOV. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:24, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am currently going through the article trying to address NPOV issues —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anonymous101 (talk • contribs) 01:32, 27 December 2007
- I don't think the implications given by the this might not be npov note are a good thing. There is no reason for this to be pov (nor is it pov). Bawolff ☺☻ 01:34, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Observer
editWhy is the Observer a source, this article features information from Wikinews articles, not Observer articles. --User:Anonymous101 07:35, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- I used their overview to see which events should be included and for general inspiration. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:19, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Good idea. Thanks for replying --User:Anonymous101 09:34, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Virginia Tech
editI thought my edit summary was pretty clear but apparently not. How is it appropriate that in a two sentence summary of this story, one of them is about Sue Gardner? Or more specifically, one of them is about Wikimedia? I am baffled as to how it was considered relevant for inclusion in the first place. Why the constant need for self-reference? regards --commons:User:pfctdayelise 02:28, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Wikinews overview of the year/Quiz
editShall I create a quiz to go with overview of the year --User:Anonymous101 10:08, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes! I was thinking the same, great minds must think alike. It should probably replace the World News Quiz.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 10:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I will create it at Wikinews overview of the year/Quiz and then it could possibly moved to replace this weeks world news quiz if other users agree. Obviously you (and any other users) are free to help make the quiz. --User:Anonymous101 10:15, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Done. 18 Questions but images still needed --User:Anonymous101 09:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

On Japan
editI'm shocked two events which the internal media consider the most significant things in Japan missed on English Wikinews - issues of unpaid pension and faked labels of food at several companies. With this lack, I propose to focus on Shinzo Abe's LDP suffers set-back in Japanese elections about this country. This set-back is said to be historical and causes his resignation, negotiation of cohabitation between LDP and JDP or drawing of Japanese military presence from the Indian Ocean, so shortly gave a heavy impact to Japanese society both internally and diplomatically. --Aphaia 13:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
31st December
editThis needs a lot of development to take place by tomorrow. DO you think we might have to leave out some parts? --User:Anonymous101 17:35, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- We can always publish with some parts left unfinished.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:38, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Finnish school shooting?
editDo you not think that the Finnish school shooting needs including, especially if we're adding the F1 scandal. Celticfan383 12:27, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Featured and OR stories
editsorry for arriving so late in the day, but this is a good place to highlight our featured and OR stories. –Doldrums(talk) 14:09, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Absolutely, feel free to make a selection and add some. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:10, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Lead paragraph
editI was going to make this our featured story, but I never really liked the lead paragraph. Instead of talking about the stuff we didn't cover, how about talking about the stuff we did? ~Planoneck~ 15:44, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Go ahead, I just thought it was useful to mention some stuff that we didn't really cover, as I wouldn't be able to include it anywhere else. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:09, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Commons deletion - Kirchner
editPlease change Image:8C9E82A93E82380.jpg to Image:Cristina Fernandez at 2007 Presidential elections.jpg. It will be deleted on Commons because of bad name. -- Cecil - (talk) 23:28, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for bringing this issue to light. Adambro - (talk) 23:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
