Talk:Wikimedian Cindy Ashley-Nelson dies at conference in Berlin
journalist notes
editI was informed about this on April 11 by some one attending the Wikimedia Conference. They had talked to Cynthia on April 10, and said everything seemed normal. The two had discussed their future plans, and things they would like to do in the movement in the future. The person had no concerns about any potential ill health. I was told that she was married sometime recently, and a public announcement was not made in order to inform next of kin. There were plans to do some sort of memorial for her as part of the Wikimedia Conference, and some changes might be made to the schedule as a result. :/
The announcement regarding her being named the vice-chair to aff-comm was made on April 9 on Wikimedia-L, with a number of people congratulating her and Carlos Molina (who has contributed her) on their new positions in aff-cmm.
I have sent pizero and BRS copies of her linkedin profile in case they cannot view them.
As a COI disclaimer of sorts, I have never met Cynthia in person but we are connected on LinkedIn. We had some interaction on the gendergap list, but I left the list about 18 months ago so not recent contact.

- The announcement on Wikimedia-l was sent to scoop --LauraHale (talk) 11:54, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Because she was so new, she was not involved in our application for meta:The Wikinewsie Group. She may have had some conversations about it, but not in any substantial way or in a way we would be aware of. --LauraHale (talk) 12:23, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Also, it is possible that I had a go at her a few years on the gendergap list when I left it. :/ I don't have what I consider a personal relationship with her, and I don't recall any specific e-mail interactions but as this is a small space, I worry and feel I should declare this anyway. --LauraHale (talk) 12:27, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
I was told that there would be some in conference tribute for her before the end of the conference. (It ends Sunday.) I was also told there may be some changes in the program as a result of this. --LauraHale (talk) 12:42, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- According to meta:Grant Advisory Committee, she left GAC because of health concerns. Other explanatory information related to this has been provided on IRC for verification if relevant. --LauraHale (talk) 13:23, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Because the edit count page keeps being down, "en.wikipedia.org For Cindamuse (talk | block log | uploads | logs | filter log | 32512 edits | SUL: Account attached at 09:27, 21.06.2010)" is alternative information from https://tools.wmflabs.org/guc/?user=Cindamuse&blocks=true . --LauraHale (talk) 13:37, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

AffCom
editMight some explanation of what the Affiliations Committee does be helpful? BRS (Talk) (Contribs) 14:39, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thought about adding that but no idea how and where to put that in there. --LauraHale (talk) 14:41, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Career
editShe did work for Hookers for Jesus for 1 1/2 years but worked for the Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council of the State of Washington for ten years. I think that is a more significant representation of her career. Liz (talk) 23:22, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
