Talk:US Air Force chief proposes using non-lethal military weapons domestically
I just read the AP story, it makes no mention of Air Force troops being used within the US, just the nonleathal weapons. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
There are two likely interpretations of this story:
- LA riot style use of troops, or
- allow purchase by police departments
Neither is obviously the case here. Not even clear the speaker knows himself!
By linking the wikipedia articles on Inserection Act, you allow the reader to find out about the relevant U.S. law. One might also mention wheather any such weapons have particularly secret aspect; making them unlikely to be made available to police.
- Read the sources again and agree that there is no mention of using Air Force troops, only Air Force developed weapons. Removed that section as irrelevant. TRWBW 22:14, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
You don't understand the issue at all: Military Aid to the Civil Power IS why these weapons are developed. i'll try to clarify.
- I'm removing the section, although I think you should add it back if you can find sources that clearly show that this proposal is linked to attempts to change or work around the laws you mentioned. If, for example, you can find a speech by the AF chief saying that air force troops should be used for law enforcement, I think it would add a lot to the article. TRWBW 10:26, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
