Talk:South African judge jails eight police for Mido Macia's 'barbaric' murder
I've taken the liberty of emailing the text of one source to @Pi zero:, who still hasn't figured out how to install a simple bypass for georestrictions into a browser. ;) It is, after all, not a pay-to-read source in the vast majority of the world and this is a global project. editI'm still wondering about "eight police" what in my eyes should be "eight police men" or "eight police officers", but since i'm not a native english speaker, i'm not perfectly sure about that. --Itu (talk) 13:38, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- Fwiw, wikt:police#Noun identifies the usage (definition 2) as "regional, chiefly US, Caribbean, Scotland". Our reviewer was US, our writer Scottish; one of the three sources also used "police" this way, though, with apparently a South African writer and, one supposes, Australian editor. It's interesting to me (as the US reviewer in question) the usage isn't universal, but imo it seems well within acceptable dialectal variation for en.wn. --Pi zero (talk) 14:13, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- OK. --Itu (talk) 14:17, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- Huh. That's actually pretty interesting. BRS (Talk) (Contribs) 14:35, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
