Apostrophe

edit

No apostrophe is required in the title - the plural of SMS is SMSs. See number 8 here). Malfidus 20:42, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I did think that too, but the source used SMS's too Cartman02au 03:10, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Not news

edit

All of this content can be found in the following article (except for the last sentence): Sydney racial violence continues. Therefore, I tag this article notnews, as it is reported in another article and doesn't add much information (except see above). For these reasons, I tag this article notnews. --MrMiscellanious (talk) (contribs) 01:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

This is comical. I am sure this only appears after I referred to it in another page in an attempt to show that Amgine's actions were appropriate. If a respected news site in Australia considers it news it is news. When this was posted last night there was no mention of it on the other article and it is a SEPERATE ISSUE. The Gold Coast is not even in the same state as Sydney. The other article is clearly identified to discuss Sydney. Please read the source and discover this for yourself Cartman02au 01:30, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
After reading the other article there is no mention of the Gold Coast or the Queensland government's actions. I suggest that you read articles more thoroughly before taking such action Cartman02au 01:32, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The content being duplicated somewhere else doesn't make it Not News. Surely merge would be more appropriate? Anyway, to Aussie contributors out there, the best response to a tagging such as this is to expand the article so that the news event that is being reported is clearly deserving of an article of its own. There are a number of mainstream articles that you could use as sources:

We could argue about it all day, or we could use our time turning it into a worthwhile article. - Borofkin 01:33, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Actually when this was posted last night news.com.au (which publishes those pages) it was breaking news and those articles had not been written. Thankyou for your suggestions and I shall look into re-working the article soon :) As always it's a pleasure for you to assist me :) Cartman02au 01:37, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Reworked

edit

I have reworked the article and have included the additional sources in which I obtained the information from.

As before I do not believe that there is anything in this that is in the Sydney pages (apart from the reference) and it should not be included with that as the Gold Coast is not even in the same state as Sydney. Cartman02au 03:10, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Excellent work. If you wanted to, you could also expand the article to include other states - it seems that these racially motivated SMS messages are appearing in Victoria as well. See this google news search for more. - Borofkin 03:14, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again. You are a true asset to this community. I may look at that side of it too, I didnt know about that (havent been listening to Sky since lunch) Cartman02au 03:28, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Another thing you should note is that you should be careful when removing tags placed by other people. It isn't against policy to remove them, if you believe that the issue has been resolved, but it is generally considered to be polite to leave a message on their talk page asking them to review the article, and reconsider the tag. Working towards consensus with a distributed community is difficult, and every little nicety helps. :-) - Borofkin 03:33, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou for informing me about that, I did not know Cartman02au 05:44, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Interstate

edit

added some more quotes and info from interstate sources...--elliot_k 03:43, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps we should modify the title? Cartman02au 05:45, 14 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Clean up

edit

I have cleaned the article up following the last major edit. I have seperated each state's incident into it's own section making it much easier to read.
