Talk:Professional wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead
Former
editNever say somthing like that again he is not just now a professinal wrestler he is a WWE lengend and you can not take that away from him.I know him and Eddie Gurerro are having their little macthes up in heaven and are becoming best friends don't say former if that's what that text says make your own judgement. And from what I said up there you can wrestle if your dead.He is not dead his spirt is still with us and I know that!Flirtygirl345
Please do not remove Former from the first word of the sentence. He is dead. You cannot wrestle anymore if you are dead. Therefore he is no longer a prefessional wrestler, but a former professional wrestler. DragonFire1024 08:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I disagree, in writing 'former' you make it sound as if he was already retired. 193.25.116.40 12:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- The title clearly states that he is dead. There is nothing misleading about that. DragonFire1024 12:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I forced myself to read and read read the "former" detail, and I agree...it does sound like he retired. So I concede and removed it :) DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 12:41, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Murder of his family and wife
editCan someone insert the information contained in http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/06/25/wrestler.dead.ap/index.html?cnn=yes. That says that some law enforcement official believe he strangled his wife and smothered his son ? I made a section bellow but then the page went page protected (I'm quite new on wikinews).—Esurnir 18:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually that is mentioned in the first source listed in the article. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:29, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son law enforcement says
editAn anonymous law enforcement official told associated press that Chris Benoit is believed to be responsible of his family death. Authorities hypothesis is that Chris Benoit have strangled his wife smothered his son and then hang himself. Authorities are investigating the eventual role of steroids in the death of Benoit and his family. The authorities declined to answer to whether steroids were found in the house, "We're not releasing any information as far as what was located inside the house," sheriff's Sgt. Keith Whiteside said Tuesday.
IRC - wikipedia knows he is dead to fast
edit<FailureFox> regarding chris benoit, did anybody at WN notice that somebody in Stamford, Connecticut (location of WWE headquarters) edited the [[Chris Benoit]] article on WP to say that the guy's wife was dead, 14 1/2 hours before the police entered his home and found all 3 family members dead? <WikinewsLinker> http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Chris_Benoit <FailureFox> and... is it newsworthy <bawolff> hmm <FailureFox> if so, it would be relevant to your article http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Professional_wrestler_Chris_Benoit_and_family_found_dead <bawolff> Perhaps someone should tell the police the IP of whomever edited the wikipedia article <bawolff> yes that might be <bawolff> Do you mind if i copy this conversation to the talk page? <FailureFox> sure, you can link to this discussion as well <FailureFox> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Chris_Benoit_and_wikipedia_announcing_the_death_of_Nancy_Daus_before_it_was_announced
So, should we add it? Bawolff ☺☻ 22:33, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is certainly interesting. Here is the edit in question. This is the link to the Admin discussion on the topic at Wikipedia. I wonder if someone made the edit based on the "mysterious" text messages Benoit was said to have sent. Not sure on the newsworthyness. Rumors spread fast and sometimes they are true. --SVTCobra 23:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think its newsworthy...maybe in a new article. Can the IP be scanned/check user? If so that may tell us where they were from as if it IS the wrestler or family member, then I think its news...I say check user. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:44, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- The IP was resolved to be from Stamford, CT, which is the same city as WWE headquarters, but it was not one of their servers. --SVTCobra 02:49, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- I smell a WWE leak...I would be willing to bet that its an employee of the WWE...I would definitely consider this news...question is...do we have enough to go on? DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

- The 3 solid pieces of information are:
- what the edit was
- when the wikipedia edit was made
- from where it was made from
- The who is unknown, and the why is speculative. So, it does fall a little short of answering the 5 w's? Dunno. -Edbrown05 03:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

- The WWE were the ones that sent cops over. But contrary to my earlier speculation, the messages that Benoit sent did not say his wife was dead. (See what's been released about the messages). --SVTCobra 03:12, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- No...but thats not to say that an employee knew before hand...what we know is what is public...so WWE could have known about the murders long before calling the police, which by this edit, iIMO that seems to be the case...we may know the location...but I still think a checkuser should be done as that will open up a wider range of information. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 03:18, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- 'who' actually is answerable as "an unknown IP". But the 'why' would remain speculative. A news article might come off as a kudos to Wikipedia for something that in the end was an edit that only stood for 47 minutes. But this is an open case, and there are no suspects other than those deceased, so it is really about Wikipedia. Is this what Wikinews wants to write about? -Edbrown05 03:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- And let's not forget the question 'how'. I feel a vacuum sucking on that question. -Edbrown05 04:14, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think we SHOULD do an article...before the main press picks it up. We will get credit for the story, because its an exclusive...I think we definitely should. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 07:34, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I am the person who broke the story on the Chris Benoit page. Read the thread here. Notice I ended up being blocked for the thread by an admin whose actions need to be reviewed. If you look at all the other references to this story on the Admin pages or elsewhere on wikipedia, they all start to occur about 60-90 minutes after my post on the Chris Benoit talk page. I am responsible for this story. And I got called a troll and got blocked for it. Sometimes you wonder if people here know what they are doing. 74.140.242.211 04:17, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Article
editIs there a specific Wikipedia article about this fiasco? 41.243.52.2 19:14, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- As far as I know, no. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, they have the regular Wikipedia article on Benoit. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
