Talk:Pakistani-born Australian sentenced to 20 years over terrorism offences

I am a bit concerned that the headline reads "terrorist". I suppose he has been convicted of planning a terror attack in Australia. And tts true he was charged with 'terror-related' stuff. A Supreme Court jury found Lodhi guilty in June on three charges - "collecting maps of Sydney's electricity grid; acting in preparation for a terrorist act by gathering information about bomb-making; and possessing documents with information about how to manufacture poisons..." IS there an element of POV here. Even the Supreme Court Judge Anthony Whealy in his sentencing said: "if Lodhi had succeeded..." The man is a Pakistan-born Australian architect, jailed for 20 years for planning bomb attacks. a major terrorist bombing would or could impact Is it a NPOV thing? Or my personal bias towards a "fair go?" --elliot_k 17:54, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you're sentenced under terrorism legislation, then that is a legal decision to define you as a terrorist. This is actually the one case I've seen where the term's use is backed by an authority. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:17, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but it's Australia that's calling him a terrorist. POV. Kyle Burris 20:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

He is described in the title as an "Australian terrorist". Since this label has been applied through the country's legal system it is not a POV issue for us to use it. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)`Reply

I read it as Pakistani-born Australian, terrorist sentenced to 20 years in prison. But I guess that's just me. Kyle Burris 23:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've compromised and renamed: "Pakistani-born Australian sentenced to 20 years over terrorism offences". Realistically Lodhi did not actually do any terror. According to the legal system, he just considered and perhaps planned something. Logically you can't be a "Terrorist" unless you do a terrost thing. I hope the title now reflects this. :) --elliot_k 06:23, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good change. --Brian McNeil / talk 07:55, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
