Status

I've source-checked the Summary section, and the non-transcript part of the Peace and Freedom Party section. However, I've looked for the correspondence on scoop and not found it, so can't complete review at this time. Analysts react to Republican VP selection

• WSS: What are your thoughts on the Paul Ryan VP selection? Overall, does it help or hurt Romney?

• Dan Judy: I think Paul Ryan will help Romney. Ryan is one of the few serious policy thinkers in either party, and is extremely effective at articulating the country's budget problems and his proposed solutions. I think having him on the ticket will make for a more serious, solutions-oriented campaign that will make President Obama's campaign, which has focused almost solely on personal attacks against Mitt Romney, look petty and small. Ryan might also help tip the balance in Wisconsin -- that state was likely to be close, and Ryan's popularity among independents there could push Romney over the top in the fall when every state will count.

• Kyle Kondik: I’d say that it’s still too early to tell about the effect of the Ryan selection. However, it has not given Romney a noticeable poll bounce – perhaps that’s not too much of a surprise in this polarizing age – and it also places a greater focus on entitlement reform, which may or may not be helpful to Romney. Also, the rollout was not particularly effective; making a major announcement on a Saturday morning in August during the Olympics seems like a PR no-no, and perhaps the strange announcement time limited its impact. In any event, the running mates for either candidate are not vitally important; this is about Obama and Romney.
