Talk:Ohio man charged with second-degree murder of Charlottesville, Virginia counter-protester

I think the specific value that Wikinews can bring to this is for readers who don't already know who Robert E. Lee was or why anyone gives a darn about his statue. Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:15, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[]

@Darkfrog24: the headline should specify the country where the events took place.

I've been trying to find a way to fit it in that wouldn't be awkward as heck. You want to give it a go? Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:34, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[]
@Darkfrog24: judge has denied bail for him. This should reflect in the lead (and the article), as well as the headline.

I have updated the text of the article to include the facts about his bail, but I do not think it is necessary to include this in the headline. It is the most recent development, but I feel the fact that he was charged makes a better focal event. Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:23, 14 August 2017 (UTC) But if you can think of a better headline, go ahead and move the article. I'm not especially attached to the current title. 1) The vehicular incident took place on Saturday. 2) The announcement that Fields had been arrested also took place on Saturday. 3) I am inferring that Fields was arrested on Saturday because that must have taken place after 1 but before 2. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:10, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[]

I have to step away for a bit. I think the article is presentable as is. If no one's started review by the time I get back, I will look for and add material on Heather Heyer. Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:08, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[]

That's a new oneEdit

Okay, I know we've had issues with source articles changing their text, title or URL after we've plugged them in, but I just clicked on the link to "Confederate flag," and the Wikipedia article "Modern display of the Confederate flag" seems to have disappeared. I'll fix it after review. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:21, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]

...And now it's back. Also weird. I think it's the capital F in "flag." Again, I'll fix it after review. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:22, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]
Reviewers are supposed to notice comments on the article talk page. Admittedly it's easy during a review to not notice immediately. The review gadget does have a hook in it so that if there's a talk page when the gadget is activated, it requires the reviewer to check a box testifying that they have read everything relevant on the talk page. --Pi zero (talk) 02:32, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]
In that case, USA Today has been updated since I first viewed it. It now reads: "Fields said he could not afford a lawyer, and Downer assigned private attorney Charles Weber to the case. Downer said he could not appoint a public defender due to a conflict of interest —someone linked to the public defender's office was injured in the crash Saturday. Fields’ next court date will be Aug. 25." I suppose your choice of wording, "appoint," is nonetheless applicable. Darkfrog24 (talk) 04:46, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]

Review of revision 4338782 [Passed]Edit

The line about the battle flag was in the slideshow and not the article text. Given the volume of ground to cover in the time you had, it doesn't seem unreasonable that you didn't see it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 06:48, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]
@Darkfrog24: I saw the embedded note about the slideshow. The slideshow didn't work properly in either of the two browsers I was using, so I did some string searching on the raw html of the page; don't recall atm exactly what I searched for, but I did find some relevant mentions which however did not suffice to verify the passage. It didn't help in manually reading the html that the entire page only had iirc one newline in it. --Pi zero (talk) 12:13, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[]

Add Wikilink to Unite the Right rallyEdit

Please add a link to w:Unite the Right rally . Thanks! -- MicahDCochran (talk) 16:41, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[]

@MicahDCochran: There's a link to it in the Sister links section at the bottom of the article. --Pi zero (talk) 18:27, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[]
@MicahDCochran: How about doing the same on that Wikipedia page?

Done. -- MicahDCochran (talk) 16:33, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[]

Focus and headlineEdit

The headline speaks about charges, he was arrested and charged on Saturday, and was denied bail on Monday. The headline is about charging, but the article was granted freshness because of denied bail. How do I use it for year end article? Should I date it August 12, in accordance with headline?

{{editprotected}} CAT:American Civil War. Surprised we have a category for something that's so very not news, but that makes references to it all the more important. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:26, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[]

We've had categories for both WWII and WWI since 2007.

Effective mention in the lede; sure, seems reasonable to have this turn up on a query. Done. --Pi zero (talk) 19:48, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[]
