Talk:NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson becomes first time father
Not News?
editI thought it was news, for one if it wasn't the sources would not exist. It doesn't read like a blog and it is not encyclopedic. --Nascar1996 20:53, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. This article is newsworthy because it is important to a large audience. The same argument applies to local news and other specialized news articles. Benny the mascot (talk) 20:57, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Then why is the template on it? --Nascar1996 20:58, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Because another editor disagrees. Let's resolve this dispute first before we take any actions. Benny the mascot (talk) 21:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, Tempodivalse believe it is borderline, but I believe he is not know that much about the sport, so he asked me and I replied at his talkpage. --Nascar1996 21:15, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- This story is a bit on the "fluff" side of things, but in the end I'm of the opinion that it's sufficiently newsworthy - the driver does seem fairly noteworthy after all. I'll submit this article for review for a third opinion. Tempodivalse [talk] 01:31, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- I am fairly certain that a sizable group of people will see this as interesting and newsworthy. Tyrol5 (talk) 01:38, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Single source
editI don't know why this passed review when both sources attribute the AP. This brings us up against a decades old but still current requirement to avoid the "appropriation of hot news".
However, don't be discouraged.
- It is a rookie mistake that many rookies here make (I have the luxury of not remembering what my rookie mistakes were, but I do know that I still make mistakes.)
- This article is much better written than the sources. Really.
The dispute drops this article off the front page, but lets see if we can fix it.

It is back on the main page. --InfantGorilla (talk) 06:06, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Googol
editAt this moment (in my part of the world) Wikinews is right at the top of this page. --InfantGorilla (talk) 05:48, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- It is here, too. --Nascar1996 14:40, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
THIS NOT NEWS!!!
editI don't care about this story, because I don't believe Nascar races to be sport. I don't care about this story, because 99.9999% of the world does not care either. I don't care about this story, because Nascar is the preoccupation of 100,000 U.S. males who also think chewing tobacco is "cool" and not carcinogenic. This is the reporting of the most mundane of events (almost every human has the potential to make a baby) involving the most mundane of persons pursuing the most mundane of employment (someone whose claim to fame is their limited history of driving a machine around a track at high speed. - If it wasn't it would not be on FoxSports.com, NASCAR.com, Lowesracing.com, and hendrickmotorsports.com. We (other editors) have chose that this is news and it applies to more people than you think. There are thounsands if not millions of fans outside the United States alone. --Nascar1996 14:55, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
