Talk:Multiple bomb threats in Sydney 'nothing more than a hoax'
Original reporting
editThis report was made by User:BenAveling at Talk:Anti-terror amendments to be rushed through Australian parliament because of new 'potential threats':
- "A colleague just had a phone call from his wife. Apparently there is a bomb scare at circular quay, which is being evacuated."
I've created this article to see if anything develops. If it turns out to be nothing we can just delete it. - Borofkin 06:30, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
I just spoke to the Police Media Unit - added information from that conversation. - Borofkin 06:45, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Evacuations
editFunny that the Police are saying that there have been no evacuations, yet your colleague reports being evacuated from Town Hall station. - Borofkin 07:05, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
I suspect both are telling the truth - there isn't an official evacuation, but the story gets mangled as it passes from person to person. There are bound to be some wikinewsreaders on the scene. They can report in when they get home. (They might be a bit late home of course!)
Anyway, even the story is a story of a hoax, it's clearly a real hoax, so to speak. I've tidied it up a little and I suggest we publish.

They have clearly done no more than you did! :-)

Quote in headline
editThe source of the quote in the headline must be given somewhere in the article. (E.g. Sydney police official John Doe told reporters the emails were "nothing more than a hoax.") Otherwise, let's change the headline.
- The headline uses the quote from the sentence The Deputy Police Commissioner has said that the threats were "nothing more than a hoax", the source for which is the Police press release. - Borofkin 01:30, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, my apologies. I had looked through the article and somehow I convinced myself that it was not there. Sorry again. Cllewr 20:04, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
