"On Monday, February 5, at the age of 97 years, the distinguished Chilean pilot, Margot Duhalde Sotomayor (Q.E.P.D.), died at the Institutional Hospital.

Her brilliant career places her as one of the pioneers of global aviation, a career that earned her recognition both in our country and abroad.

In 1946, the Air Force granted him the title of "War Pilot Honoris Causa". Later she received the "Cruz al Merito Aeronáutico de la Fuerza Aérea de Chile" Award.

Born in Río Bueno, Región de Los Ríos. At the age of 16, she joined the Chilean Air Club as a member, graduating as a civilian pilot before turning eighteen years of age in 1938.

During the Second World War, she traveled to Europe and joined the French forces, being destined to London to fly with the Royal Air Force. There she flew more than one hundred types of aircraft, including fighters, bombers, transport planes, among others.

In 1951 she joined the Air Force, where she served as Air Traffic Controller in different flight units of the Institution and in national aerodromes, reaching more than thirty years of professional career in this service condition.

The Air Force regrets the death of the outstanding aviator, whose personal qualities made her worthy of the esteem of those who surrounded her and of the members of our Institution."
