Welcome the world of journalism, a reporter is not required to publicly post his notes or share them with others. If a legal situation arises, portions of my notes will be made freely available - others won't be surrendered without a warrant. Wikinews has a policy that states that an accredited reporter, a person of trust, must confirm a story's authenticity to prevent hoaxes in OR. Luckily however, I am just such an accredited reporter on WN, and thus my saying "the story is legitimate" is as valid as Cirt coming in and saying "His story is legit". This is hardly a classified matter. I doubt they'd care. But if you are worried about that, then ask them in the future. Then list your sources who say "yes". I dunno what you can do about sources who say no. Maybe say something like "I talked to 2 additional people, both of whom requested anonymity". "Friendly note", 'cool' is when you hear people like that refer to you by name as they recognise you - it still brings a smile to my face - though occasionally a cringe. "I don't want to be associated with you, shhh, I'm just a reporter!"

"Wikinews note", yup, sources are mine, where it's relevant to the article their names are obviously given - where they're behinds-the-scenes types, there's no reason or desire on my part to ask them permission, because I don't want/need to publish their names anyways. It's unfortunate, like "demanding our real names" to be accredited, WN would be happy/content with complete bullshit - I can just create a {{OR-justification}} template and make it say "Hey, I'm Sherurcij, I was there and I spoke to people and took photos" and they'd be like "Cool, that's what we need!". It's bullshit meant to stroke the collective ePenis that has no place in pseudo-professional reporting - yet there it is. sigh WN has great potential, but not so long as it's held back by people who think it's their personal blog. In fact, if possible, I would just line up anybody in the world who called themselves a "blogger" and have them stripped of all credentials. Ah well :) Sherurcij 02:14, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
