Talk:Lycos Europe ends its anti-spam campaign

This is a follow-up of an earlier article Lycos launches screensaver to increase spammers' bills. I used fair amount of information from its talk page. Tomos 12:34, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

This article is under review currently. Here are my opinions. Note that I wrote much of the article.

  • Accuracy: as accurate as other industry publications. Two potential problems are
    1. I think I have seen somewhere the # of download being nearly 10,000, not over 10,000. Where does this inconsistency come from ? I don't know.
  • Comprehensiveness: can expand more, but pretty good. Better than most articles.
    1. Cronology is a bit blurry. The date of launch, official ending, and other important events are not very clear from reading the sources. Or I did not have enough cognitive capacity left to do that part of fact finding. If someone can do a small round of research to figure that out, that would be great.
    2. Some sources report that two servers in China were shut down. The source for those reports is Netcraft, which to me seems to report that two servers were slowed down, but not stopped. I did not include that part in the story.
    3. I wanted to find the scale of attacks conducted, like how many requests were actually send, how many people-hours it run, etc. I did not find any.
  • Neutrality: The overall focus of the article is the criticisms and troubles that the campaign produced. This leads to a kind of negaive tone. It is hard to find media coverage praising this campaign, indeed. What should we do? I did two things, which others may or may not find enough.
    1. To formulate the article so that it is about "possible causes" of the campaign's end. That focus gives us a reasonable ground why troubles and criticisms are reported.
    2. To state that many people downloaded the program.
  • Legality: I don't see any problem.
