Talk:Iraqi authorities say Baghdad violence has dropped sharply
the numbers
editneed to be reported. and contrasted with those from independent sources. Iraq body count reports 675 civilians dead this week, while CNN reports Iraqi official death toll as 265 this month. –Doldrums(talk) 21:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay I'll put the numbers But all three sources say the same thing. I dont know why we need independent sources brought in.
clean-up
editI rewrote from the provided sources. I don't think there is a need to contrast with NGO's figures since it now clearly states were these statistics came from. --SVTCobra 23:53, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Iraq Body Count is an interesting project, but their methodology is too questionable to be considered authoritative. I particularly love how they say results are "independently verified" by members of their own team. --SVTCobra 23:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- ? they say, "results are independently reviewed and error-checked by"[italics mine][1].
- when different agencies disagree on event, we report all views and relevant undisputed facts, imply one is correct and leave our audience to judge who to believe. –Doldrums(talk) 05:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
No war
editAt this point, I am going to refrain from entering into an edit war with The 13th 4postle. I believe the article should be titled "Iraqi military reports a sharp drop in Baghdad violence" or similar. Also, this paragraph:
. . . is poorly written and the information cannot be found in the listed Sources. --SVTCobra 00:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that "Sharp drop in Baghdad violence" is a sentence fragment and should be revised. Cacophony 03:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
have changed the title to attribute the claim. we don't know whether violence has reduced in Baghdad or not, all we know is that the Iraqi authorities say so, and as now mentioned in the article, others don't particularly agree. so we need to attribute the "dropped" claim to maintain WN:NPOV. –Doldrums(talk) 09:19, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Shnoobies
editThanks for the edit Shnoobies. If you look closely at that paragraph, it still says "resolutions ... is debating resolutions" --SVTCobra 01:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
numbers from IBC
editi count atleast 200 deaths in areas identified as Baghdad in the IBC database of incidents between Feb. 15 and Mar. 1. –Doldrums(talk) 09:45, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I also tallied their database and got 183, close enough. --SVTCobra 20:00, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I re-tallied and got 199, this time. I have confidence in Doldrum's numbers. --SVTCobra 21:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
