Talk:Iranian scientists claim to have found new treatment for AIDS

Treatment or cure edit

How come we never heard this news on any other news stations like BBC or CNN?

From the articles in the sources I have only seen the word cure one. For all I can tell its a treatment not a cure. We should replace cure with treatment. I only skimmed through the artcles though.--Apartmento2 07:42, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, if AIDS recurs after two years, it is definitely not a cure. -- Canar 12:41, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the creator of the article is just reitterating the sentiments of Islamic news agencies throughout the world.... Note that there doesn't appear to be a single western news source reporting this story.

"the effects of the drug are "guaranteed" to work for at least two-years, but also said that the drug may not work for a human during his or her entire "life time."

These people don't have a clue. Since when is a cure only guaranteed to last for two years?! clear and shameful spin by the arrogant Iranian government. The Iranians also appear to have developed the drug for new borns expected to live for a little over two years...

  • 1) Islamic government makes dubious claims in arrogance
  • 2) State sponsered and dubiously independent Islamic news sources report with grand headlines
  • 3) Rest of the world looks on in laughter
  • 4) profit?!
  • 5) Wikinews covers the story

Given all of this, could we please have an explanation as to why this is on the front page. It clearly does not belong there. 82.152.194.157 08:47, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Every story is on the front page. 67.162.121.179 12:59, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fail to see the relevance of "islamic government" and any reason why "islamic news sources" might be less reliable than, say "christian news sources"? All depends on your perspective. Also, AFAIK "cure" can be a technical term meaning that a patient survives for a certain amount of time (but I realise that's not how most people would read it). Anyway, try and contain your outrage that it's Iranians pumping out the publicity. Next time it'll be an American university where "scientists claim to have found a cure for cancer X". This is just how things like this get reported by people who want to sell newspapers. Spandex 17:09, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm renaming the story to "Iranian scientists claim to have found new treatment for AIDS." Crazyeddie 14:54, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maybe just MAYBE no Western reporting has been done because the Westerners do not want a CURE. There is certainly not as much money in a CURE as there is in TREATMENT... or MAYBE some time will pass and the Westerners will "DISCOVER" this same cure and gain recognition for saving the world. You can not really say that the West has proven itself to be above such a thingTruthsayer 05:58, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Have any more details emerged?

Iranian scientists claim to have found new treatment for AIDS edit

Why can't we hold a positive view that there may be a treatment for the Aids patients dieing now. What is wrong to give them a couple of years more and by then may be a cure manifests. I have a question for those who are so arrogant about the possibility of prolonging the lives of dieing people. How come you do not say anything about the scam about "The Bird Flue Virus?" even if you had the vaccine under your belt at the time of acquiring it, your symptoms might mildly reduce, it is certainly in NOT a cure, yet the stocks are reaching new heights based on lies. Save your breath for the apparent lies and not for what may potentially help millions of people till the cure arrives.

Here's why: Whoever wrote the above statements must have something against Muslims and is likely a bigot. I make that statement because they make a generalization about Islamic governments, when Iran is the world's only Islamic government. Others might govern under Shari'ah nominally, but at the end of the day, someone else has the final say and he does not necessarily follow Islamic law.
