Talk:Gunman opens fire in El Paso, Texas superstore; more than 20 dead
Death toll
editI'm on mobile and adding a source is difficult, but the death toll has gone up to 21 following the passing of a hospitalized victim. USA Today source: [1] —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 16:17, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- On a closely related note, the numbers at the end of the first sentence of the lede want some attribution. --Pi zero (talk) 16:23, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- Done —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 16:27, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
Seems it's now 22 —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 23:59, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- ...yeah, how about a headline that says "more than 20"? --Pi zero (talk) 00:03, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
Freshness
editThis pretty much needs to mention in the lede as-of-when the death toll reached 22, as this would save the article from staleness (supposing it gets reviewed on Tuesday UTC). It's possible a reviewer can do it during review (if nobody else does it first), but, one way or another. --Pi zero (talk) 01:41, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
- I change the wording to mention it was as of Monday. —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 03:16, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, mikemoral. I still don't know whether this is going to work (despite having been actively reviewing it now for more than an hour), but that was clearly indicated and is much appreciated. --Pi zero (talk) 21:43, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
- Regarding Lopez Obrador, it looks like now the Mexican government is saying 8 dead, though not AMLO himself saying it. —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 00:45, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- I'd suggestion revising that paragraph to:
- According to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, six Mexican nationals were killed in the attack, and seven more were injured. Mexican authorities later said eight Mexicans died in the attack. Mexico's Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said the Mexican government would pressure the U.S. government to provide better protections for Mexicans in the United States.
- Addition in italics. —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 00:51, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- I'd suggestion revising that paragraph to:
- I don't see that Obrador's six was necessarily before the Mexican government's eight. --Pi zero (talk) 01:45, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
