Talk:Gay not an option on MySpace profiles
Original Reporting
editI received the message on my MySpace main page that stated the following:
Latest Update: May 2, 2007 12:30pm, PST
Seems like there's more rumors than usual that i'm closing the site or going to start charging for myspace. not true foo'! don't believe what you read in bulletins and rumors.. if there was something important to tell you, i would post an announcement.
Oh and some people have asked about the missing orientation option for "gay" on edit profile. that's a bug that should be fixed later tonight... no, myspace does not hate gay people.. duh. --Tom, MySpace founder. DragonFire1024 05:08, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh for goodness sake, Wikinews is not a blog. -Edbrown05 05:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- A minor and unintentional bug hardly seems newsworthy -24.141.158.0 09:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
change title.
- Agreed. It seems sensationalistic.--67.72.98.108 11:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Neutrality
editThe article seem to try to lead the reader to the conclusion that MySpace removed the "gay" checkbox at the direct behest of Rupert Murdoch. However, there is no evidence to support such a conclusion. If he had directed MySpace to revise their profile categories, I think it most likely would have removed the other alternative lifestyles as well, ie. "Bi" "Lesbian" and "Swinger". --SVTCobra 13:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
New title
editNot entirely accurate since "Lesbian" is selectable and is also homosexual. --SVTCobra 15:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
To me "not selectable" suggests that the option is present but just can not be clicked and selected permanently. Because of this and the above comment, perhaps "Gay not an option on MySpace profiles" would be a slightly better title. More catchy too :p --121.44.140.154 16:07, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
false
editthe option is gay/lesbian not lesbian
- see story's screen shot. The option was not "gay/lesbian" at the time of its writing
