Help!

This is my first wikinews article. Feel free to help (especially to get it on the front page). The first lines is written by me (pharaohmø). The second section is written on wikipedia by John Nevard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:John_Nevard). It would be nice if he got credit for his work.

I published and added more etc. I am likely gonna get crap for this one. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 10:52, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

English sources

The story is all over norwegian press, both newspapers and TV. But I can't find english sources. Why can't wikinews be the first to spread the story internationally? By the way, many of the blogs and forums where the story is discussed contains minor and major inaccuracies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.165.147.247 (talk) 01:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, contributors are not given credit for their work. Everything is under Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 with the attribution falling to Wikinews, and not the individual contributors. --SVTCobra 01:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's fine. After all, credit isn't the important thing here. Getting the news out is. John Nevard's contribution to wikipedia (last section under this heading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Scientology#Members.27_health_and_safety) is the most accurate english source i've found so far. It will probably be more sources tomorrow. Please feel free to take over this little project, cobra or anyone.

I added some cats and links, but I don't have the time to bring this to publication. Hopefully, other will ... Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I added {{languageicon}} to this article. Why was it removed? --SVTCobra 01:41, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do not like the use of a blog as a source ... is there anything that this blog adds that isn't in the norwegian sources? --SVTCobra 02:05, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes it has a translation. Something which I cannot do because my tools do not translate from Norwegian. Or we can use entrubulation.org. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:17, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I hope we can trust them/it/s/he. I will try to check the translations myself tomorrow. (What? You didn't think I understand Norwegian? Well, I'll have you know that my brother-in-law's brother-in-law is Norwegian. So there! I know Norwegian! No really ... I do). --SVTCobra 02:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. Google does not translate it and i don't have anything else to do it. Glosslip also has some translation too. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:34, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm norwegian. Both blogs gives accurate summaries of what norwegian newspapers and TV has reported. Some of the other english blogs (which is not mentioned in the article) have minor inaccuracies. Pharaohmø (not logged in)

OK, I have also reviewed the original norwegian articles, and I believe that we have gotten all the facts and quotes correct. So I will now remove this blog from sources as well as the GlossLip which also adds nothing (just links and copy-paste of the articles we already have). --SVTCobra 13:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mother

Note: The politician Heidi Sørensen is Kaja's step mother. Kaja's birth mother's name is Tove. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.241.216.109 (talk) 05:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Original translation

I translated this quote from Dagbladet myself:

  • "Jeg tror Kaja ville vært i live i dag hvis hun ikke hadde gått til scientologene," mener Henrik Møinichen. (no)
  • "I believe Kaja would have been alive today if she had not gone to the Scientologists," says (literally opines) Henrik Møinichen. (en)

Neel Shah and Radar Online

edit

I do not think that Neel Shah's opinion merits inclusion. Shah is a writer for Radar considered to be satirical in nature. Shah usually writes about gossip and pop culture. Hardly an authority on what may or may not drive someone to suicide. --SVTCobra 15:23, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good point. Removed. Cirt - (talk) 15:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Los Angeles Times

edit
Los Angeles Times mentions the incident. Cirt - (talk) 23:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
To be fair that is a blog hosted by LAT and not something published in the paper. (I hate how those [and not just LAT] show up in Google news searches). --SVTCobra 23:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
To clarify, according to the webpage it is still technically published by the Los Angeles Times. Cirt - (talk) 23:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, I would never consider them to be reliable sources. I do not believe it goes through the same editorial control that the things they put in the paper do. At best they are the equivalent of opinion pieces. --SVTCobra 23:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hrm, well that's a discussion for a Wikipedia talkpage, not here, but I'd have to respectfully disagree, I think they are reliable sources, and that there is a review process. Cirt - (talk) 23:50, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
