Talk:Bratz picture filmed at high school in rough area of Los Angeles, while in session

Latest comment: 16 years ago by Zanimum in topic Why August 1st?

If this headline is to be retained, "at troubled high school" needs to be explained. -Edbrown05 08:52, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Date edit

Is this article intentionally dated in the future (August 1)? --SVTCobra 10:35, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Missing OR notes edit

If the photos are the only thing original, please make a note of it or remove the OR tag. Actually, the photos are from an earlier story, so they are like archive photos, so they don't qualify as original. --SVTCobra 18:42, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay, people watch hockey games and report it as being "original", no one objects... people turn press releases into articles, it's considered original... This content was based on a press release, but all of the negative stuff was my leg work, finding another level to the story. They obviously didn't want the press to get distracted on the whole violent school stuff, and just brushed over it. -- Zanimum 19:51, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Story development edit

If want to prepare a story and avoid other people working on it and publishing it, I suggest you make use of the Wikinews:Story preparation area. If you leave stuff in Development it is going to get worked on by others, but if you do, you could put {Editing} to encourage others to not touch. --SVTCobra 15:53, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, if I put "editing" on it, then people wouldn't fix spelling errors, bad grammar, edit the article for length, the stuff that needs to be done, 'cause I'm read to admit my writing lacks at times. And if I named it as part of the story prep area, then it wouldn't automatically publish the day I'd like it to publish. I want to prepare the occasional article for a known upcoming event, and have it appear when it's most relevant. -- Zanimum 18:55, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, at least a note on the collarboration would be appropriate, otherwise - as happened here - someone will publish it as soon as it looks ready. --SVTCobra 21:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why August 1st? edit

I just have to ask. Why is it important to publish this on August 1? --SVTCobra 15:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to publish it closer to the date of the movie release, and far enough away from the previous Bratz article, to not "over Bratz" readers. -- Zanimum 19:53, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hate to say it, but that makes you sound like a public relations agent, worried about how to best market the Bratz and their movie. --SVTCobra 22:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
What? I can see your thinking, but:
  • Whenever multiple articles on the same general topic show up, readers complain. By spacing similar articles out, Wikinews reduces the risk of fatiguing readers. Correct?
  • How wouldn't this story increase in relevance nearer to it's release? It itself is a human interest piece, the news itself is that the movie being discussed will be released in theatres.
I assure you I am not a PR agent. I have not even received a print version of the press kit, or autograph from the stars, nor have I asked for one. -- Zanimum 18:21, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I know you're not ... I know your history here.--SVTCobra 21:04, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, a movie studio could just find someone from the area of the event, and buy them out. -- Zanimum 17:49, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
