Talk:Biden questions Bush's "special treatment" of "Scooter" Libby
NPOV violation
editThis article is soliciting people to join Senator Biden's campaign to flood the White House switchboard. Blatant violation of WN:NPOV. --SVTCobra 18:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. Thunderhead 18:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think that Biden's comments are themselves news - although his position is clearly not "neutral."
- I'd suggest removal of the "flood the Whitehouse switchboard" statement, and let the articl stand as a neutral report of Biden's statements.
- I most certainly don't agree with Biden's tactics, as they're a waste of your country's tax money. However, this is what he said. If a candidate suggests supporter take unusual actions, that seems newsworthy to me. If we republished with his call for action, but without a phone number for the White House...? -- Zanimum 19:47, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Just a comment. 'Biden's tactics' - urging people to call the White House (or their Senator or Congressman, or a TV station or an Advertiser, etc etc) - are common in politics - on all sides - and I expect in all countries. The White House was flooded with calls from the 'other side' over the immigration debate just last week. Some call this Democracy In Action. Emperor NortonXXIII 21:49, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- True, but Wikinews should not take sides and encourage any kind of behavior. "The facts, just the facts". --SVTCobra 00:03, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the NPOV as the article has been cleaned up sufficiently. Motoma 20:01, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Sources
editThere seems not to be a source for the Biden quotes. The one source is not what it claims to be. --SVTCobra 20:39, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Most Dems and even a few Repubs are criticizing the commutation, (some Repubs saying that he should have been pardoned) I think the article should be changed to be a 'catch all' for criticism of the commutation from all sides. Thoughts? Emperor NortonXXIII 21:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- What you propose is basically a complete rewrite. There is indeed tons of criticism from all sides. But there is also some applause, if you change it to a comprehensive article you must include that too. But first we need to fix the current sourcing problem, methinks. --SVTCobra 23:14, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
I did my best to find sources that had the Biden quotes as they are in this article. I could not find them. I found some that mentioned that he had made a statement, but none that had the text. What I mainly found were other news sites that had the same story, but listed Wikinews as the source. Here are two: [1] and [2]. I find this somewhat disconcerting. It has been over 3 hours since I mentioned this as an issue and no one has stepped forward with a source. After I consulted on WN:IRC, I realize I had no alternative to adding the sources tag. --SVTCobra 00:52, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wikinews articles appearing on 'Mens News Daily' is cause for concern. Mens News Daily is part of the infamous 'New Media Alliance' Spamdexing Spin Network. "New Media Partners is a public relations firm specialising in online advocacy for conservative groups. On its website Heritage New Media describes NMA as "a conservative issue advocacy and information group established to promote and defend traditional social, political and economic principles nationally." sourcewatch entry Be concerned, be very concerned. The New Media Alliance I am. Emperor NortonXXIII 01:46, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- No, not really, can you explain why that would be a concern? --SVTCobra 02:26, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
The source of the quotes
editThe quotes are from an email. (I'm on the email lists of most of the candidates, Rep., Dem., Ind.) I assumed the PDF file linked included those quotes. -- Zanimum 15:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
