Talk:Al Jazeera website restored after Al-Rashedon hack
OR Notes
editYesterday, at 2219 BST [2119 UTC], I received an email from belle.lupton@aljazeera.net which read:
"Hi Ryan,
Please see below Al Jazeera's response:
A problem affected Al Jazeera websites on Tuesday 4 September when the DNS servers pointing to the websites were poisoned.
An Al Jazeera spokesman said:
"Some visitors to our websites faced disruption after external DNS servers were compromised. The company that operates them quickly resolved this, though some users may continue to experience issues for a while longer. We thank our online community for their patience and support." Thank you
Belle" I replied by thanking her for her cooperation. However, I also asked about technical difficulties I was having with the Al Jazeera website. Today, at 1638 BST [1538 UTC], I sent an email to belle.lupton@aljazeera.net, which read: "Hi Belle
Thank you very much for your assistance on this story. It is appreciated.
On an unrelated note, I seem to be unable to access either aljazeera.com or aljazeera.net from my computer. In some cases BT is telling me the websites cannot be found, while in others the page is marked '403 - Forbidden Error' with a message telling me I am not allowed to access this address.
Could you please help me to diagnose and resolve this problem?
Sincerely Ryan" More details as they develop. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 16:04, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Still awaiting a response from Belle at this time. By the way, could the reviewer please check if the aljazeera.net and aljazeera.com websites work? They still don't for me. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 17:29, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just a FYI on this: Their response was that the problem resulted from DNS poisoning; that means the lookup to find out the IP address of aljazeera would be returning false/incorrect information.
- That being the case, you would be unlikely to be able to reliably email them. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:53, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Any chance????
edit....you could slide in an image of the site, post-hack?? So we have before/after?? (If you can access it, that is.) --Bddpaux (talk) 18:26, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Site is back, and here's a screenshot to illustrate and add to article: File:Al-J.net-2012-09-05.png. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:34, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

The reviewed revision should automatically have been edited by removing {{Review}} and adding {{Publish}} at the bottom, and the edit sighted; if this did not happen, it may be done manually by a reviewer. |
