  • At 5:40pm on Thursday, I attended a local Chamber of Commerce After hours event hosted at the fairgrounds in Tyler. The fair committee's president (John Sykes) spoke briefly, noting that this is the 98th year for the fair. He also stated that some years ago, local police complained of excessive criminal activity during the fair. Stated fair workers are now drug screen before, during and after the fair. --Bddpaux (talk) 00:19, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Mr. Sykes also mentioned that the event is projected to bring in roughly $7.5 million in receipts. --Bddpaux (talk) 20:11, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I interviewed the dive show's owner/producer Thursday evening (night before opening day). They require that these huge (!!!!!!!!) concrete blocks are brought in(as a part of their contract) to use as anchors for their 8-story high dive tower. They had to use a big tree, though, in front of Harvey Hall as an anchor, though, because one of the cables was blocking a fire lane and that wouldn't fly with the Fire Marshall. He said their pool holds 9.5 feet of water depth. --Bddpaux (talk) 20:15, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • We had some MONSTER RAINS in Tyler on Thursday!!! I drove by the fairgrounds around 4pm....you can see about 40% of the entire food "midway" from near the main entrance......I counted, maybe 6 people!! Not many folks for opening day!!--Bddpaux (talk) 20:30, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
