  • At 12:55pm on March 10, 2012..............spoke with long-time personal friend of Mr. Knutsen's, alongwith one of his close family members; they noted that Mr. Knutsen was removed from life support systems on 3-9-2012 at 7:50pm. They further stated that his children are donating his remains to medical science. Bddpaux (talk) 01:56, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

"1960's" edit

Since last time I moved an article I got a telling off, I'll let someone else do it. This is disgusting misplacement of an apostrophe. Foxj (talk) 03:10, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't seem to rise to the level of post-publication renaming. My previous impression on this point was that it was a minority usage but not actually incorrect. The Wikipedia article apostrophe conveys a similar impression. I'm poking around in some of my dead-tree style guides, but most of the readily available ones don't even address the point. --Pi zero (talk) 04:15, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Checked a bit further. Of six dead-tree sources consulted, two didn't address the apostrophe on non-alphabetic plurals, two mentioned numeric plurals but weren't clear about years, and one each were clearly for and against the use on years. Again, doesn't seem to rise to the level of post-publication renaming. --Pi zero (talk) 04:36, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Given that this is being used as a plural it should not have an apostrophe. It's regrettable this cannot be moved. Foxj (talk) 05:43, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
You're probably right.......most commonly, the usage would be,"...in the 60's...." or, "in the '60s.....". My mistake....I'll watch that next time. Thanks for the catch. Bddpaux (talk) 17:15, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I'm reading that "1960's" might be correct in some parts of the USA, so... maybe. Foxj (talk) 16:04, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not actually incorrect is not true. Why put one there when it is not needed? Anyone who reads a mainstream newspaper knows. This article needs to be renamed, can it be done? Nasnema (talk) 23:07, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not actually incorrect is true, which (as noted thereafter) I confirmed by consulting hardcopy sources. I do figure, once the article is actually archived (in about a week) and completely impervious to being picked up by any feed, to rename it in the archive; although removing the apostrophe isn't necessary per se, it is preferable. Might as well leave the archive in good shape. --Pi zero (talk) 23:25, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
