Rural New Zealand crash leaves one child dead

A 12-year-old girl has died after the car they were travelling in slipped on ice and rolled off the side of the road near Darfield, Canterbury.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also at the scene to offer services and help. Two were taken to hospital for a check up.
State highway 77 was closed while the scene was cleared up, creating a detour along Zigzag road. It reopened at 5.00 p.m. (NZST).
